In two years, the last Apollo mission will be closer to WWI than to the present.

Furk.

That's what cool about this one. You know there will be another mission building on this one likely next year. Timelines are months instead of decades now.

Turns out building working rockets is hard

The two strap-on solid-propellant boosters generate another 919,200 pounds of push, providing a total thrust of just over 2 million pounds. The Vulcan can be launched with up to six strap ons depending on mission requirements.

Not a lot of *NEW* info in this video, but it's a well-presented summary of the entire escapade.

sanity check: tom herman IS still employed by florida atlantic

this is how this video ends:

so, what did we learn?

space is hard

That launch window opens at 7 am central time for anyone up early, 8am on the east coast.

What a gutsy move.  The launch may take place at 7am and the booster stage may return from space at supersonic speed and destroy the launch pad at 7:15 ... or maybe not.  Tune in and find out.

Yeah, it's one thing to slow land it on a drone ship, but this goes bad and it blows up the tower and the pad.  I'd give it 50/50 they abort or miss the pad, and only about a 10% shot this works on the first try.

Despite the explosion in the water, it was a completely successful mission! They landed right on target and did a controlled hover over their spot before dropping into the water, falling over, and exploding. Definitely still have some plasma burn through to solve on the control surface joints to the main body, though

The countdown counter is working great.  Something's not right with the rocket.

This is like watching a team ice a kicker with 300 timeouts in a row, and the booth is having to review each timeout.

That thing slowly crept off the pad like a Saturn V, but instead of Walter Cronkite there was a women yelling "Oh my God!"

heheh, yeah, missed that. Separation worked, now land that baby.

Damn impressive.

A company making orbit on their first try is extremely impressive.  Not just the first try of a new system or rocket, but Blue Origin’s first orbital attempt in the history of the company, period.  Has that been done before?

SpaceX is scheduled to launch their 7th super heavy test flight today at 4pm Texas time. Hopefully they will be able to catch the lower stage a second time.

Coverage is scheduled to start about 45 minutes prior on their website, plus others will be live streaming on YouTube.

The upper stage is a new “Block 2” design. This may be the final suborbital flight test with a possible attempt to catch the upper stage on flight 8.

Point for Jeff this round. He’s still behind but he got something today.

Jeff is getting something from Lauren every day that he wants it, apparently on a big-ass yacht a lot of times,

Musk is getting…*checks notes*…virtual high fives from 25 year-olds living in their mom’s basement.

With his Path of Exile Stolen valor, he's starting to lose those.

Yeah, him responding with some Diablo IV footage made things so much worse.

On the one hand, he has the perfect excuse to ignore it with the White House stuff, but on the other hand, his personality won't let him ignore it, because he's been called out on his own platform.  Will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Lol he released DMs and revoked verified status of twitch streaming goblins that called him out. He's gonna be in the Whitehouse beefing with nerds on Twitter while defunding public services

Trump: “Leon, what’s this I hear about people saying you are pushing for too many cuts on this service?  There are people in Congress calling me and asking me to tell you to stop pressuring them on Twitter”

Musk: *tapping away on phone*

Trump: “LEON!”

Musk: “Hold on, this 14 year-old said something about me on X and I’m trying to get all of their information so I can dox them”

Trump: “if you’re gonna talk to 14 year-olds on a porn site and dox them, whatever that is, wait do you have to pay her extra for that? Anyways, don’t do that in the White House.”

Musk: “No, it’s a 14 year-old boy, and X is what the uninformed call Twitter, it’s not a porn site”

Trump: “Doesn’t Twitter have a lot of porn on it?”

Musk: “*sighs* yes but it’s a free speech public square and forum, not a porn site”

Trump: “I don’t know, if people use it for porn, it’s a porn site to them. Why are you talking to 14 year-olds anyways?”

Musk: ”Because they challenged my skillz”

Trump: *stares blankly at Leon*
