SPLC

Your thoughts? Looks like the walls are closing in on this scam. It's gotten some heat from the left - for racism and sexism. Pretty silly for the respectable organization responsible for helping police hate speech on the social media giants.

Tom Cotton is a jackass.

I used to admire the work of the SPLC.  There's a certain amount of politics that inheres in their work, like the ACLU.

It does seem to me that they have become more overtly political.

Didn't see this posted anywhere else, but seems like a big idea. Basically SPLC was paying informants inside the KKK and other hate groups. DOJ is saying they were funding extremist groups.

BREAKING: DOJ announces charges against the Southern Poverty Law Center based on allegations of paid informants in an indictment in the Middle District of Alabama.

"This investigation is very much ongoing," FBI Director Kash Patel said.
This sounds like an absolutely unreal case to bring, Blanche couldn't give a coherent justification for it, and we know how Patel felt about the SPLC.

More to come once I get the indictment.

That seems like an extraordinarily thin indictment.

SPLC paid insider/informants (not illegal)

SPLC used fictitiously named bank accounts to do so (checks from SPLC might raise some eyebrows)

On one occasion, one of the insiders stole/removed documents from an organization for copying by/for SPLC and the documents were returned (meaning they were not stolen, as that usually requires the intent to deprive)

The only thing really questionable is the amounts paid to the informants: they seem large relative to what SPLC was getting; I'm sure SPLC didn't intend those amounts to fund the operations of the organizations in question, but at those amounts they maybe should have known that's what they were doing

"There's no such thing as white supremist groups, but SPLC was funding them!"

#21

I wouldn't have thought or condoned the SPLC was paying insiders for information. However that may be one of the few options to gather info like headcounts, plans, etc., when the federal govt is prioritizing white culture and downplaying white supremacists.

EDIT: Paying insiders really isn't much different than if the FBI sends in a plant or flips someone into a snitch. When the FBI does it, they have the backing of the AG and White House. When someone against the White House does it, it's supporting the extremist group.

Feel like a few months ago some poster(s?) were saying Splc was absolute dog shit and biased about something. Or at least much more recent than 2019. Saw this news yesterday and went to double check my vague recollection, couldn’t find anything on surly or googlfu. Only info I could see was the 2019 resignation or 2025 bullshit from make believe political flat-earthers like breitbart and heritage foundation.

Was anyone posting that or am I just being old and somehow associating pre-pandemic posts as recent?

ADL probably.

At one time, there was considerable overlap in ADL and SPLC. ADL has turned toxicly zionist.

#24

This seems to me to be an attempt to use DOJ to figure out who is funding SPLC, and then attack them.

More of the law being used as a sword against people who aren't protected by the regime.

#25

yeah, this feels like retribution and problem seeking rather than truth finding. things like this plus trying to rewrite the J6 narrative just make my blood boil. I can't dwell on it too long. gotta get back to work...

The SPLC has the temerity to call a racist a racist.

It doesn't let them hide behind "states rights" or other facades for gutter racism. As gutter racist as the regime is, they can't stand being called racist.

That's the answer in a nutshell.

so does this shit have any legs at all? does this possibly open the gov't to discovery they don't want? will this go anywhere?

This is more Shirley Sherrod and ACORN stuff. Conservative hate anything and anybody working to expand the voter franchise.

Don't think it results in conviction.

And while criminal discovery to a defendant can be broad, it is unlikely to be publicized.

REPORTER: I just want to make sure I understand. You're alleging that the Southern Poverty Law Center was paying the leaders of KKK and other groups?

BLANCHE: I'm not alleging it. The grand jury returned an indictment that says that

When you have a strong case.

#33

Here's why:

Several white supremacists were convicted of crimes related to Charlottesville, including Heather Heyer's murderer.

A dozen were held civilly liable.

To call this a "hoax" because an anti-hate watchdog had eyes on the organizers is delusional racist propaganda from the White House.

SPLC's motion for grand jury transcripts raises same points that @weissmann.substack.com did in critiquing indictment.

They claimed false and misleading statement to bank (which knew accts were SPLC's), only false is illegal

No proof of statements to donors

MOTION to Disclose Transcript of Grand Jury Proceedings by Southern Poverty Law Center, Inc.. (Attachments: # 1 Exhibit Declaration of William Athanas) (Schmitt, Addy) (Entered: 04/28/2026)
The Trump DOJ lied about the SPLC's role in Charlottesville.

Using informant-provided info, the SPLC handed the FBI a 45-page "Event Alert," including names, photos, associates and criminal histories of the rallygoers—and their "weapons of choice," per a new filing.

Do we think this is true?

Over $3 million in donor funds were used to pay extremist groups

The indictment itself says that those payments were made not to the groups, but to individual members of the groups in return for informing on the groups. Over a lengthy period of 2014 to 2023. To at least nine different groups. That averages out to about 33k per group per year. That's if you believe all the numbers and details behind them.

The indictment acknowledges that the individuals paid were informers. It does not allege that SPLC knew or intended those funds to go to general support of the groups.

The amounts do seem to be somewhat extravagant, but I'm not really sure what it takes to pay off a white supremacist these days. Paying informants inevitably leads to support of the informer and to some extent support of the organization to which they belong. Still, to render this a criminal offense, the government will have to prove that the intention was to provide support to these groups.
