VHS Tapes

in 2005 when my grandfather passed away, we found about 50  brand new ( as in still shrink wrapped) VHS tapes he had bought in the last year of his life that were on sale at walmart or wherever.

The movies were legit real popular movies.    We took them to Half Price Books... they offered us .25 cents per tape.   goodwill accross the street offered to value them at $4 each.    My parents got more from the tax write off on the donation than the cash offer from HPB.

Not complaining about HPB, they are there to make money, but the point was, that was 14 years ago and sealed VHS tapes were worth almost nothing.   even the Goodwill donation was only worth a $200 write off.

I have to assume that they are probably not even available to sell anywhere today except on ebay or some such

I kept a Traci Lords tape for years that was supposedly taboo due to her being underage at the time of making the video.   Damn I wore that thing out, loved me some TL back then, girl knew how to fuck.

"Supposedly taboo"? I think those were and still are very illegal.

I had a ton of VHS tapes when I got divorced in 2007. I took my original Star Wars boxed set (not the special edition bullshit) and left the rest for her dumb ass to deal with. She didn't have a VCR, so they were useless.  I hope they took up the entire garbage can and fucked up her trash day.

Well, she started young. She had ample time to perfect her craft.

Lol, nothing "naughty"...

You were wise the spent the extra $$ on DVD porn. So much easier to navigate from scene scene, skip over dialogue, etc

Doesnt really relate to your issue but I’ve had to buy a VCR and tapes. We have an infrequently used vacation home that I’m too cheap to get cable/internet access for. We makes tapes for the kiddos to watch their shows on Nickelodeon etc.  Blank VHS tapes were not as cheap as I expected    Not pricy but I thought they’d be dirt cheap which they weren’t

problem with VCR (vs records) is that tapes loose quality quickly.  I think your “Saved By The Bell” complete third season are not likely to appreciate much.

I thought people were talking about audio cassettes making a comeback. I guess that never got traction.

I'll go through a bunch of my VHS tapes. if I have a bunch of stuff that younger kids r kids in general might like I'll be happy to send them to you for nothing. That is if you're interested and if the missus has not got impatient and trashed them already.  with a carpet installer finally getting around to installing the carpet that we've had on the schedule since February mrs shooter is going nuts rearranging things, doing spring cleaning and throwing away stuff that should have been gone years ago. the insurance claim for the water damage was a huge hassle but I think in the long run it's going to benefit the house a bunch

Let me know about the tapes and I'll hook you up.

Tried to buy a VHS player for some gag about 6 months ago. Couldn't find one anywhere. Went to a pawn shop and they said that as soon as they get a VHS player, it's snatched up and a hot selling item. Most Craigslist type markets I saw were at least $50 if not more for a working VHS player. Finally bought one for what I thought was a steal from an old Indian man for $30.

MIL had a bunch of tapes that made it through Harvey but the player got damaged.  Found a NIB player this past Christmas on eBay for about $60.  MIL was happy she could watch her old movies again.
