Prove Me Wrong: American Airlines is the worst domestic airline

Those cancellations are almost certainly related to the Max even if they weren’t originally scheduled on one. They didn’t just cancel all the Max flights. They are canceling the flights that have the smallest impact on the overall system and the smallest impact on total number of passengers. Sometimes that means canceling one flight to use it on a flight that would’ve been operated with a Max.  Sometimes it means canceling a flight that’s full  if the flights in that same plane later on are not full and they want that airplane at another station that originates an entire day of full flights.  The airline is stretched pretty thin on airplanes right now and trying to allocate them where they have the best impact. I don’t know if you were on the Houston flight or the LAX flight that canceled tomorrow but probably neither one of them was an issue specific to that airplane or those cities. More than likely they just needed that airplane somewhere else where it would be more useful over the entire day.   I get your frustration though.

No doubt it was simplistic of me to dismiss the issue just based on the aircraft. You're right - there are a lot of ripple effects from the max 8 issues. Totally agree with the just another airline portion. They are my bad luck airline but I still fly with them when it's most cost effective. Stuff can happen any time, anywhere.

I love arriving LGA concourse C in the rain and seeing all the buckets positioned to catch water from the leaking roof.  Who needs Port-A-Potties and bad food....I have the United Club!!!

Flew AUS-SAN yesterday. Was on a 615 flight to PHX that ended up delayed 30m, which was cutting it too close for our second leg onto San Diego so the app alerted us and gave a mix of options, we ended up leaving 0845 to LAX to catch a 3 flight onward to SAN.

I have never seen a sadder terminal than T5/regional at LAX...it was one tiny building with no services (but somehow had an admirals lounge), with all boarding done via a labyrinth of air stairs and angry people.

The delay was due to a lack of crew and replacements were maxed out on duty time so what can you do...so I wasn’t upset but man I thought the mini terminals in DFW was bad.

Then again a window seat into SAN is always a good time for an avgeek

Yeah that terminal is the SECOND worst at LAX...

They actually have one just for international flights on extended ground hold. It’s a secure, isolated little shithole with no services other than restrooms.

Got stuck there one night and was an eyelash short of throwing trash cans.

Yup that is the single worst terminal I've ever been in. One tiny cafe/food cart and you can't even get hot water.

I gave up on SWA because they rarely left SFO on time. I missed the birth of my son, his first little league, high school prom and college graduation because the SWA flight was delayed.

Got dam, that's a serious fucking delay.

I personally would have given up and booked a different flight after about 15 years.

I'm really wondering why regular travelers in Austin bother to use American anymore for domestic travel.  They don't go anywhere unique anymore.  They are garbage for travel to ORD, LAX, and JFK where there are numerous other carriers with far better service, equipment, prices, and more importantly---itineraries.  Other than trying to maintain some worthless elite level status, I'm honestly dumbfounded as to why Austinites make American their choice of carriers.  Where are you flying to/from that American makes the most sense?

LAX is far and away the shittiest major city airport I have ever seen.  It's mindbottling how bad that place is.

Delta in and out of LGA is only way to go.  Flying out at 7pm.  Of course I’ll be delayed now.

LAX-RDU last night.  Took off on time, landed early, FA gave me 2 whiskeys on the house.

319 blows, but I knew the aircraft type when I booked the flight.   Business meeting this afternoon, then heading to Palm Beach for the weekend, hopefully with a bunch of new business in my pocket.

I’m in/out of LGA about 3 times per month. As much as that place is the pure definition of hell its been fascinating watching it be transformed.

it's was just one roundtrip flight, but i had a great experience flying Spirit.

Maybe because i upgraded to a seat in their first two rows, which gives extra leg room and has only 4 seats per aisle instead of 6. it is all about not getting squeezed in with me. I can give up every other amenity (and trust me, you do in Spirit), but having space is the key. Spirit is so cheap that, even with the upgrade, my ticket was still cheaper than economy seating on all my other Airline options.

i felt like i was King of Poors on the flight.

I dunno, maybe i got lucky.

You didn’t get lucky. They’re starting to figure it out. They finished ranked as the 4th or 5th best airline last year, and were number one in on time departures in Q1 of this year edging out Delta.

The ULCC’s get a bad rap because people these days are needy, self absorbed a-holes. But they’re fine if you just want to get A to B on the cheap and aren’t willing to double your ticket for free pretzels and and a coke. I don’t mind riding on them.

I’m also a fairly averaged sized, skinny male that travels with a small cooler for food so the seat pitch and lack of amenities doesn’t bother me.

Passenger reacts to pilot being arrested, charged with triple murder before flight

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WKRN) - A North Carolina pilot is facing charges in a 2015 triple murder. He was arrested at the Louisville airport Saturday morning, passengers say just before his plane was set to take off.

Christian Martin is a pilot for American Airlines PSA and was set to fly a plane from Lousiville to Charlotte at 7 a.m. Instead, passengers were shocked to see their uniformed pilot handcuffed and escorted out of the airport.

"It was a pilot that came out of the shoot or whatever, and we were all like, "Oh my God,' like I was thinking, 'Was that our pilot? Is that why this flight is delayed, 'cause our pilot got arrested?'" Martin said, "And originally I was like, 'Oh my gosh, like what could it be... maybe he was just under the influence a little bit."

It was much more than that. The triple murder he is indicted for happened in November 2015 in Christian County, Kentucky.

Not comforting to say the least.   At least they got him before he decided to go Germanwings  one day.

Was flying out of PHX to PDX yesterday and the flight was canceled for maintenance while the aircraft was in the air inbound from ORD. It was a mess at Sky Harbor with multiple maintenance cancellations.

I don't get the LAX hate.  It's a fucking airport.  They have a TGI Fridays, a Chili's Too, some newsstands, and some overpriced bars,  LIKE EVERY OTHER FUCKING AIRPORT.

What exactly is better about other airports?    What can you get at DFW that you can't get at LAX?  At ORD?

Had mechanical issues to and from Miami last weekend.  Both resolved but led to delays.  Changed to United this Friday for LAX trip.  Not sure how much better that will be...

I’ve actually had good luck with United. I always try to take the earliest flight out in the morning. The later you fly, the more chance of delays.

For the record, ORD is in my top 5 of shitty airports so you've got that going for you.

I’m not a fan of LAX either. It’s a little better now that they’ve revamped the baggage claim, but it seems like it takes 45 min for the luggage to reach the claim carousel.

And LGA is the biggest shithole ever. I live in Brooklyn and still fly out of Newark.

Flown in and out of LAX a dozen times in the last year, a couple hundred times in my lifetime.

Lived within a 100 mile radius of LAX for half a fucking century, so I may have been there a time or two.

I almost got escorted out once when I threw my credit card at the person behind the counter. I've calmed down a lot. And that wasn't Spirit Airlines, which I flew one time and one time only.

Some friends of ours are in the Caribbean now, courtesy of American Airlines. However, AA left their luggage on the tarmac somewhere here in the US.  Seaborne Airlines threw it on one of their planes and got it to the island. They had their luggage the next day.

Not sure if anyone got laid at the airport.
