Lonzo is one of the more underrated players in the league just from how much everyone hates his dad. He's a really good passer, good defender with the ability to switch across a few positions, and while his free throw shooting is embarrassing he's actually not a terrible shooter. 33% from 3 on 5 attempts per game isn't good but that's enough that his shooting doesn't hurt the team.

He not a terrible shooter in relation to who?  Ricky Rubio?  Brevin Knight?  Marcus Smart (hey he got better this year)?  Lonzo has some game but he's a really bad shooter.

That's not what I said.

In reading between the lines I think you are saying that smart GM's should stock their rosters with average role players such that in the unlikely event 1 or 2 player suffers a season ending injury the drop off will be minimal.  While stupid GM's will instead attempt to acquire  2 or 3 of the top 20ish players in the league.

It would be a nightmare if Kawhi joined the Lakers, I literally just got over Durant joining the Warriors.  Luckily, I think that chance is very low.  I'd like to see the league be a little wide open for the next year or two, and I think this might be the case next year.  LeBron and AD together is a great start for having a good team, but certainly not yet a team I would pencil in as a championship favorite at all.

I like that the Pelicans valued Ingram more than Kuzma, he's a much higher risk in some ways but his ceiling IMHO is much higher.  I'd rather take the higher risk between those two personally.  I think both Ingram and Lonzo could end up as elite - not just good - defenders although I really worry about both of their mindsets/mentalities.  They both worry me there.  Lonzo's 3 point shooting doesn't worry me a huge amount, but his literally horrific free throw shooting - and how it impacts his overall ability to attack the rim and cause gravity to drift towards him for open looks for others - is a gigantic hole in his game right now.  He's got to fix that or he might max out at best as a decent to good defender with good court vision (he really does have good vision that can't be taught so easily) but a huge liability on offense.   If the Pelicans can have Zion, Holiday, Lonzo, Ingram, maybe Garland (or even trade the 4 for Atlanta's 8/10 possibly), I'm not sure they could have done much better considering Ainge (smartly) was not going to include Tatum with AD's threat to leave after one year.  Maybe they have a few more moves planned too.

“What they gave up for him is potentially scandalous,” he told ESPN 710 in Los Angeles. “It is an unbelievable haul that they gave. And not all the details are out there yet, but when they get out there, you’re going to see why. It is the Nets-Celtics trade part 2. It’s going to affect them long after LeBron is out of his prime and maybe no longer on the team.”

The Nets-Celtics trade is widely considered among the most lopsided in NBA history. What made it so lopsided was how many draft picks Boston controlled and for how long. Boston received three first rounders and a pick swap for a fourth. Boston ended up with Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum with two of those picks, and they traded a third for Kyrie Irving. It seems that this trade may someday challenge that haul.

“What they gave was one of the most lopsided trades, in terms of draft compensation, in NBA history,” Windhorst said bluntly, adding that the Lakers seem to have given up control of their draft for the next five to seven years.

Hey he’s not the worst shooting PG in the NBA. At least he’s better than Simmons

Their picks for the next 5-7 years will suck because they have Anthony Davis and Lebron. This years pick is the only one worth anything.

1st round picks are very valuable,  you can't build any depth without them, hell Kevin Looney was the only bench player worth a damn for the warriors. It then allows you to build your roster far more cheaply so you're able to afford paying your stars without going into luxury tax hell

Yeah and they were picked 15th 22nd 23rd 24th and 27th, so tell me again how those Laker picks are worthless

Fair point. That’s also the exception to the rule. To be fair, so is the lack of first rounders and winning. Worthless is certainly an overstep. My real point though is giving up late first round picks in exchange for one of the 5 best guys in the league isn’t the sort of disaster it’s being painted as in that article. It’s not comparable to the Nets deal because the Nets got guys clearly past it. Anthony Davis is a clearly a star entering his prime.

Ask the Pelicans how it worked out for them with AD as their franchise player.

Hope Pelicans want to close deal in early July, thereby squeezing Lakers cap space even more ..... it would be hilarious for Lakers to struggle, have less cap room and have no draft picks to help them get less expensive good players thru the Draft.

Lol 3 straight years of pick swaps.  Lakers were so desperate because they knew no free agents wanted to go there.

Now, not only do they need to be contenders next year. They need to continue contending as Lebron declines.

I would bet the Pelicans are better than the Lakers in '23-25.
