The other 2 picks are protected as well as the 2nd swap. There is a chance none of the picks are conveyed to the Thunder.

There's a chance none of those specific picks are conveyed but it's been speculated that they then would convert to other assets such as 2 2nds or a 1st and 2nd.  I'm unaware if the specifics of the trade have been published but I know they've been speculated on.  And for them not to convey, it would likely mean the Rockets are fucking terrible for that 3 year stretch and get lucky with ping pong balls, sort of a Pyrrhic victory.  The picks are so far in the future it's hard to understand the real ramifications as in 2024, Westbrook certainly won't be with the Rockets (probably out of the league) and Harden may not be with the Rockets any longer either.  I do agree that without major injury, the 2021 swap probably doesn't convey.  The likelihood the Rockets don't convey both picks as first rounders is low.  The likelihood they don't convey at least one of them is microscopic..... but hey, if somehow they get that "lucky", it would likely mean they're terrible and didn't hit on the 2024 first rounder.

Please point to what years the Rockets give up their #1 to the Thunder if they keep their picks in 2024 and 2026. It shouldn't be hard, I was able to google search in 5 seconds to find the language in the Davis deal.

You are so fucking stupid, it’s unbelievable.

So please enlighten everyone what year the picks get deferred to if not conveyed in '24 and '26. Should be easy to find out since you are so fucking intelligent.

The trading of the pick can't fail. It just keeps getting pushed back a year.

Then the reports would say that if not conveyed in 2024, then it becomes unprotected in another year, no where has it been reported this was the case. As I pointed out in the article about the Davis trade where it was specifically spelled out.

The Rockets are in for a surprise in a year or two when the Thunder sue to invalidate the trade citing the Rule Against Perpetuities.

lulz. This should be a very simple exercise. If the Rockets have a Top 4 pick in 2024, what year do the Thunder get the Rockets' pick to replace this one, and is there any protection on it?

Lol that's not true at all. These deals have parachutes at the end where if the picks don't convey, they turn into other things. The Thunder don't just get to keep trying for the same first rounder over and over. Typically at a certain point they convert to 2nds.

None of us know because the details haven't been released. But it's very possible that the Thunder have to trade more away to dump cp3s terrible contract than they ultimately end up getting.

Htown has been right the entire time. I'd wager even money that the Thunder spend more assets to dump cp3 than they gain from the trade between now and 2026.

That said fuck Houston, they will never win a title. Their coach is a chump and they now feature two of the biggest stat whores/chokers ever. Years of false hope, as is tradition.

Do you even CBA bro? (#89)

I see what you mean, but I wouldn't consider conversion to a 2nd rounder as a fail. Like you said, all in the trade details which we don't know.

So this is a fun rumor:

The Rockets, meanwhile, probably wouldn’t want to move Clint Capela, P.J. Tucker or Eric Gordon for Iguodala, so a sign-and-trade involving Iman Shumpert could be their most viable path for matching salaries. Shumpert would have to sign a three-year contract in that scenario, but only the first year would need to be fully guaranteed. He could sign for exactly $12,185,185, and presumably he’d be open to the idea, since he won’t receive that kind of money from any other team as a free agent.

Why does contract length matter?  It’s only annual salaries that have to sorta match.

S&T now requires 3 years minimum, but you don't have to guarantee the second or third year. The first year must be guaranteed at least to what is needed to facilitate the trade, or any NG money cannot be used for salary matching purposes.

What would they attach to Shumpert to entice Memphis to move him?  A first?

They save 5m in buyout and have a smaller contract to potentially move at deadline for other assets. That's about it. Maybe a 2nd to sweeten, but I can't see a FRP included.

Isn't Memphis seeing if they can acquire a real asset though?  I could see this maybe as a last resort but it's not necessarily going to save them a great deal on the buyout.  Buyouts are negotiated so they'd have to negotiate the buyout with Shump beforehand and have a good idea what Iggy's buyout number would be (if they believe it as such) to understand the cost savings.  They also would need to see the nature of the buyouts by seeing if either would agree to offset language.  It's a tricky little negotiation because Iggy probably wants his freedom more than Shump, who probably doesn't care as much anymore (has a ring) and wants to optimize his payday on a dwindling career, therefore not as willing to negotiate down.  Attaching a 2nd may make it move though, although dependent on conveying picks to OKC, finding some 2nds not frozen could be difficult.  lol.  j/k.

5 million for a small market team headed for tanking is no small amount. Iggy at 17m isn't going anywhere right now, or they would have made a deal. Both LA teams are waiting on his buyout and nobody else is making noise. This is likely Memphis' best option.

But If Iggy accepts a buyout at 14 plus accepts offset language and Shump wasn't going to accept any buyout but a straight waive then there is no real cost savings.  You're assuming a 5 million savings that may not necessarily be there.  I also think Iggy has some other suitors beyond the LA teams but no idea where he'd like to ideally play.  Not saying this can't happen, just saying that it's such a small value add that it probably is a fallback position.

Question for Rockets fans, is Iggy really an upgrade on PJ Tucker. I get wanting Iggy but I don’t get moving multiple pieces for him, especially when PJ gives you many of the same skills other than maybe the passing.
No, but in this scenario we are doing a Sign and Trade of Shump for Iggy, so Iggy would be an addition to what we have now.

Why in the world would they sign up to pay Shumpert 12M??    What else would they be getting out of the deal?  And more importantly, WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD THEY SIGN UP TO PAY SHUMP 12M???

To not pay Iguodala $17M, and maybe get a draft asset. Shumpert would have an expiring deal at $12M which could be used to move to another team at the deadline for more assets.

Even at 12M they would end up buying him out later.   No one is giving them anything for the right to pay Shump 12M.  He isn't even in demand now as a FA when you could offer him much less and not give up anything to get him why would someone give up assets to get him at 12M?

It's 5m in savings, how is that difficult to understand? No one else is offering expiring contracts of less money for Iggy. This is pretty much the only move they can make besides buyout.

We don't know what has been offerred for Iggy.   All we know is the Grizz have said they want a 1st for himand so far they haven't got it.   Additionally, as explained to you already the buyout is a negotiated amount there is no pre-determined buyout percentage so the 5M savings is far from guaranteed.  Why is that so difficult to understand?

Ok, but with Iggy they start negotiating at 17m and Shump will be at 12m. Both can be offset 2.4m if they go to another team. Both could be moved later in another deal to take on bad contracts, but one is 5m less. Shump might even be willing to take less to get a big payday he otherwise wouldn't get at all. We don't know, but there don't appear to be any better deals for Memphis to take.

If he was gonna get a big payday he would have been offered that by now, no?

Where did you get this "speculation" from?  Anyone reputable?

Also.... this is hilarious.  Whoops.

Simmons getting a max 5 year, $170 mil from Sixers.  Not sure he's quite earned it, but I guess they felt they had no choice.

If he doesn't get a NTC, then it's a win for Philly. With him locked down for 5 more years, they can trade him to whoever wants him if he doesn't work out.

Most fans will always remember him for that brainfart (a series the Cavs would have probably lost anyway).  And to be sure, after 2016 he was mostly horrible there.

But he did hit a couple big 3s in the third quarter of Game 7, for which I'll always be grateful.
