not sure what the story is but looking at the records, we played lamar twice in the regional at the disch.  we won game 1 6-0 and game 2 6-5 to advance us to the cws.  assuming it has to do with a finish in the 6-5 game.

I'm certain I was at the game, and I vaguely remember it.  It was definitely a walk-off win for the Longhorns, and I recall it being some quirky play (maybe the runner scoring from second on a wild pitch or some damned thing).  I'm reasonably sure Spike Owen scored the game-winning run.

Spike Owens scores the winning run on a play where the throw to the plate was perfect, catcher had it....he was a dead duck.

Somehow, at least in his and the umpire’s eyes, he slid under the tag. Spike hopped up immediately with the “safe” sign, and the umpire emphatically agreed.

Actually it was Bill Bates not Spike Owen and yes, he was out, However, lLamar's pitcher David Poss was getting awfully tired at that point. It wouldn't have mattered.
