Big 12 tourney....supposedly a heated argument either between Pierce and Hurley (and maybe Hurley's Dad also) about his use in those games (or one of them). Per what was written/shared yesterday on the site here, Hurley was told after those games ( and Texas out of the post season tourney) that he was off the team and to turn in his jersey. The team then stood up for Charlie and were all going to turn in their jerseys also if Charlie was off the team. Pierce relented.

How much Texas loot did Pierce walk away with after his canning?

Too much.  Around 1.7 million I think.

Destination Rice, Coog High, or aggy?

Is Tillman still running things at UH?  If so, I can't imagine him signing off on hiring a guy UT fired.

Forgot to post last week: was on a flight from San Diego to AUS Saturday, and Schloss and what I assume is his girlfriend were on there, too.  Didn't get any real good pics, but 99% sure it was him.  Same glasses he was reading with, new Nike burnt orange shoes...  Guess even the big wigs gotta fly commercial every now and then.

he is back ready to Reckling things at Rice

I wish him great success and have no ill will towards him he was just not the right fit for Texas, but at the time he was about the best option there was. Even when he was let go it was slim pickings to replace him and most likely if Del did not already have Schloss locked down Pierce might have been kept for another year. It is just a lot harder to find top baseball coaches these days that will accept the pressure of a job like Texas and that are proven somewhere else.

I am sad things did not work out for Cruz Jr. and I hope if he wants to continue to coach he takes a position job somewhere and keeps building on that, but Rice needed to do something and Pierce was there why burn a season when you can make a move and try and salvage something especially in a sport where you get in the tournament for winning the conference

“After waiting for several hours, I was finally allowed to see him,” recollects Del Conte. “I walked into his office and said ‘Hi, I’m Chris Del Conte from Texas Christian University’ and DeLoss looked up from his desk and replied, ‘Nice to meet you Del!’ I figured if I was successful in persuading him to vote for us, he’d eventually figure out what my name actually was.”

Taking over a program mid-season that is 4-16 is a tough situation to walk into but good luck to Pierce in trying to turn it around.

Not much downside to stepping in there.

yea he basically gets most of a season "free" to evaluate players and to try different rotations and to make a case for players to stay.....if he gets any kind of results at all it is a big positive and even if he does about the same he still has the knowledge of things and it has to beat sitting around waiting for it to fall apart even worse than it has now

Who would go work for an AD that fires a coach mid season?

Pretty sure Rice had his eyes on him for the past 6 months. They were just waiting for Cruz to fail. This plan was in place months ago

Best of luck in H-Town, Coach Pierce!

David Pierce

1) Those are good uniforms.

2) Good luck to him.  That's a program that deserves better than it has gotten over the past few years.

Wayne Graham wasn't available.

Rice Baseball will always start and end with him.

He and Coach Gus are two pretty good disciples of Bibb Falk.
