You all keep mentioning Pierce's resume and including his accomplishments at Texas.....Most of the replacement coaches mentioned in this thread have 100% better resumes than Pierce did at the time of his hiring.

Ok. What does that have to do with today?

But we’re not talking about the time of his hiring. We’re talking right now. And most of the guy we would target have had similar years as Pierce has the last 6 real seasons.

I don’t find football and baseball even remotely similar so I don’t think that matters. But also, Tom didn’t make three BCS games in 6 years.

I’ve seen the names that you and others have posted. Some seem like they would work, some seem absolutely moronic. None have the accomplishments DP has. Doesn’t mean they couldn’t do better here though.
It’s strange to act like 8 years with no title is some crazy amount of time. This ain’t exactly the first time we’ve had an 8 year gap in titles. And it’s not 1975 anymore. The overall talent is much more diverse across schools than ever before.

DP needs to win a title and I personally wouldn’t really care if we fire him. It’s just beyond tired seeing this same shit everytime we lose a game with no real reasons other than “hasn’t won a title”.

You say we’ve plateaued? According to who? By what metric? Your feelings?

This is pretty good right here.  There aren’t many on this board that don’t have questions about Pierce, but there are lots of unknowns as to how CDC views DP and what’s happening within the program.

So who is his replacement?

The names that have been floated around here mostly are Erik Bakich (Clemson), Tom Walter (Wake Forest), and Mitch Canham (Oregon State).

Between Walter (26), Bakich (13), and Canham (3), they have 2 CWS appearances combined in 42 full seasons as head coaches. Tom Walter is the only one who has won his conference with 3 at George Washington and 1 at Wake Forest.

Canham is currently the only one with a recruiting class ranked in the top 15 the next two seasons with his 2025 class being ranked 15th currently. Texas currently has the #3 class in 2024 and #2 in 2025. Recruiting in baseball though is very fluid.

That coaches who are better coaches could do better than Pierce at Texas with the resources a Texas baseball coach has? Pretty obvious correlation but hey....

And their evidence of being better is…? That they have been better at OSU or Clemson or Wake or Michigan or Virginia or Florida than DP was at SHSU? One of those schools is not like the others.

You're right, lets keep Pierce....he's definitely the one to win a title....

Texas Baseball - "He Might Win A Championship, We Don't Know"

Texas Baseball - "Big 12 Tourney Is Meaningless"

Texas Baseball - "If not for Covid we could have won it all"

It’s amazing how every discussion about this devolves into you throwing a fit instead of supporting your opinions. We’ve plateaued according to you. When did that start, what’s the evidence for it?

I literally said since NIL/Portal era began.

8 years in....time to change and try something new because Pierce isn't working. "But but but <dates from 3-7 years ago here>!"

Bakich seems like he would be the guy imo. I dunno if we will make a move or not but if we do and we end up with someone like Canham or Walter I would be pretty disappointed. There’s not an Augie out there obviously but if we are making a move, they need to at least have some skins on the wall.

The Augie days of finding a coach like him are over, sadly. With a Canham it’s just personal preference and no sound reasoning behind it other than I believe in 3-5 years he’ll be one of the best young coaches in college. Someone is going to get him quickly with the current conference situation he’s in. If he can take Oregon st to the series this year then Texas getting him would be an early bird move imo. I’d still take Bakich over Canham tho.

Well NIL and portal started in different years. So have we been plateauing since 2018 or since 2021?

Again all you do is just say “nope not working”.

The modern NIL/Portal era was 2021.....the further we get the more we are going to regress. Especially once Pierce has to face SEC conference schedule.

The NIL era started in 2021. The portal era started in 2018. So your evidence of our “plateau” is 3 seasons of baseball, one we played in Omaha, one we played in a Super, the other isn’t over yet?
And you just ignore our portal haul for this season that addressed several holes in this roster hit injuries derailed.

Unlimited transfers and what is the portal post 2021 is different than it was even in 2018.

Crazy that game 1 starters in Omaha punk teams. Thats quite the revelation. Our game 1 starter punked them pretty hard too. We lost 2-1 lol.

So the solution is to keep cracking at it until a team without a Friday guy shows up as our opponent? Or to just create hypothetical titles where those teams exist

What? You acted like game 1 starters in Omaha dominating was somehow unique to us. Thats kinda how it works. The average runs per team in game one if Omaha last year was 4.

You aren’t facing many scrubs in game 1. Your lineup isn’t normally going to blow up for more than a handful of runs.

We scored 8, 6, and 8 in the games we didn’t face Bednar. We weren’t dominated by pitching in that tournament. We were dominated by 1 guy who happened to be the best pitcher in the postseason.

So 2.75 seasons of baseball is the evidence for plateau. Ok then lol.

Do you think Pierce can win a championship at Texas? Is just making it to the CWS the standard now?

2022: 7-3 L to ND in CWS, 10-2 L to A&M, congrats on getting shit on but hey that's the new Texas standard, "At least we made it"

2023: huehuehue Stanford lights WHAT IF

Also 2024 - Big 12 3rd Place in a very bad year for big 12.

Since NIL/Transfer portal we have regressed every year. If you can't see that you're dumb as fuck.

38 trips to CWS. 6 Championships. What is the standard again?

Perfect Game Recruiting Rankings (Texas):

https://www.perfectgame.org/rankings/Recruiting/Rankings.aspx

2025 - 2nd

2024 - 3rd

2023 - 8th

2022 - 24th

He's had 8 years to prove it already and hasn't done it but some of yall can continue to play the almost made it card all you want.

Yes I think it's impossible that he will win a championship at Texas because he doesn't recruit in the portal well and he doesn't use NIL effectively enough to get what's needed to take the next steps. He's a hard coach to work for and will struggle to bring in a great staff to put around him to cover up his deficiencies as a coach. If he was in his 4th year I'd say give him more time but 8 years in, he's peaked my guy. We are currently plateauing and we will regress next year with him due to moving to a much better baseball conference than the big 12, see his record vs SEC.

He has made it to the CWS 50% of the time since here at Texas.  2020 (covid) and 2024 (CWS hasn't happened yet).

I took a lot of shit for stating Pierce was over his head after his 1st CWS appearence. Seems to be a lot of people on that bus now.

Nice!  He followed that up 2 more trips to the CWS and a top 3 finish in the country.  You really know your stuff.

Ha! My post was a fact yours is just an opinion. What a world you’re living in.

The one where Pierece is getting fired because he's a shit coach that has run the program into the ground. But continue to wax poetic about a 3-6 CWS record including a game with 21 Ks and consistent pitching staff mismanagement.

Stating that Texas’ performance in the Big 12 tournament was meaningless is an incredibly dumb statement.

Stating that Texas’ performance in the Big 12 tournament was a critical issue is also a dumb statement.

The reality is that the poor performance is another data point that is rapidly starting to show the program is on decline, and that is unacceptable given the program’s history and Texas’ entry into the SEC, with A&M sitting in a more competitive position as a program.

We have been to the CWS 38 times in 80 years. Piers has been to the CWS 3 times in 6 years.

And the last time he went we got embarrassingly skullfucked and were shown we had no business being there.

Oh…and we’ve gotten measurably worse every year since then.

So fuck you and anyone else who holds the worst coach on campus up as anything else other than just that…the absolute worst fucking coach on campus.

Our standard should be hosting the Regional every last weekend in May or early June.   This has not been met more than once in Pearces tenure.

We got rid of Tom Herman for consistently shitting the bed in situations we should’ve met or exceeded expectations.    This in spite of beating  UGA in a NY6 bowl game that UGA fans claim they didn’t want to be there and  putting a good dog stomping on Utah his last game as our HC when we were supposed to lose that game.

And Randal Terry should be the next on the hot seat.   Nothing less than a five seed in the NCAAs should be our standard and top four finishes in what will be a competitive SEC too.

Ha! Move the goalposts much? So the new standard is just getting into a regional, but only in Austin?

Ok, fine. Who won the 2018, 2021, and 2022 Austin regional? Google it and letnia know.

Hosting a regional used to be expected.   I guess I’m wrong.

You are certainly wrong that he has only hosted once. 3x.

Been to regionals 5x, supers 4x, CWS 3x. 2020 none occurred, and 2024 TBD.

Uh, what?  We've hosted 3 times under *Pierce, and advanced every time.  This year will mark the 3rd time we will head to another regional.  We've advanced to a Super Regional 4 times, and won 3 of them to advance to Omaha.

There's really no reason to make our post-season efforts under Piece look any worse than they are.

Just to clarify, Herman wasn’t fired for on field performance reasons, he was fired because he had substance abuse issues that poisoned his relationship to the AD, recruits parents, and high school coaches, and he had made too little effort with rich alumni for there to be a push against his firing.

That’s likely some part of why Pierce is still here-he might be an asshole but not on Herman’s level.

Well, the facts are that under the current format, and before Pierce, Texas hosted a regional 9 out of 18 years.  Under Pierce, not counting the covid year and assuming we don't host this, year Texas will have hosted 3 out of 7 years.
