I woke up on Saturday with a sharp pain on the side of my hip. It hurt to raise my leg, let alone rotate it, and showering, I had to sit down to put on my panties. The pain persisted into Monday. I looked around the house and jury rigged a shoulder massager into something that could massage my left butt cheek.

Tuesday morning, I'm back to 80%, this morning I was at 90%. How and why did it start hurting? Who the fuck knows these days. One or more of my body parts hurt whenever I wake up. I think that's just a sign I'm getting old.

I feel you. Half of my department is under 25. The guy slightly order than me quit, so now I'm the old fart.

I was having lunch with a few of my "kids", and one asked me how old I was. I said 48. Her response was "DAMN, you're twice my age!"

Didn't use the word "wow", or "cool", but "DAAAAAAMN" I told her if she did that again, I'd fire her.

Another kid said he was going to celebrate his grandma's 80th birthday. My dad is turning 82 in a few weeks.

I have a 3-1/2 year old granddaughter.  I was recently at my daughter's house and we were all outside watching my granddaughter showing off on her T-handle scooter (skateboard looking thing).  My SIL pulls out his skateboard and is skating around while my granddaughter is on her scooter.  My granddaughter asks me to ride the skateboard.  I haven't been on a skateboard in YEARS!!  But who am I to tell my granddaughter "no"?  How hard could it be as I still consider myself athletic for my age?  Found my way onto the board and managed to do some Figure-8's for a few minutes without wiping out or falling off.  But let me tell you, it was nothing like it used to be.  As I was rolling around all I could think of was all of the things that could go wrong.  Just another moment of feeling mortal.

Last saturday, I was out shopping with the wife. She was trying on coats and I was holding the bags. After shifting these bags around a few times, I pulled a muscle in my ribs, below the shoulder blade. I could only take half breaths, the pain wrapped around my right side, it was pretty bad. We left the store and I said we gotta go home. I was driving and that was a mistake, it was a nightmare. We get home and I laid down and felt better quickly. Sunday, I was much better. Monday, I was getting dressed and as I pulled up my pants, that same muscle/area said "Surprise, bitch!". Thankfully, I was working from home last week.

I used to think that my good safety record was because I was smart.  Now I realize that it's because I have an overactive imagination in the face of hazards.

I have been with my employer for almost 34 years.  And, like you, in various capacities including engineering.  Today we had a group of engineers together of about 10 of us with about half of us there with 25 plus years with the company.  We were reviewing and editing a spreadsheet that I had put together.  I was doing one of the repeating steps rather clumsily and one of the young engineers spoke up on an easier way to do it.  I thanked him for his contribution and told him that is why we have youngsters in the organization.  He admittedly said that he had just Googled on how to do the shortcut.

Quick question for the group. 57 here. Relatively good shape and no major issues. Do take a high bp and cholesterol statin.

My gp is kinda lazy and really doesn’t do much for me at my annual physical except look at ear nose throat, listens to heart with a stethoscope and taps my knee for reflex testing. Does do a basic blood test that has always come back normal in whatever it tests .

I’m reading this thread and seems like I need to ask for a couple of things

1) ct scan
2) more detailed bloodwork —what exactly should I have looked at beyond the basic bloodwork.

What else am I missing?

I just want to make sure I’m getting the right things checked in the right level of detail for my age. Feels like my doc is just checking a box .

I have a high deductible plan, but do want to get as much looked at , preventively, at my next exam.

Appreciate any insight.

I’d go look at walkinlabs.com (I sound like a marketer for them on this board) and check out their wellness pkgs/panels and go from there. If results look sketchy then you can take that to a specialist in that field or dive deeper on other testing yourself then take it all in to an internist(?) I guess. My insurance sucks so I just pay out of pocket then take it into my gp for review on annual checkup

Today I put on my SA Spurs 2003 commemorative championship t shirt.

20 fucking year old t shirt.

Am i gonna make it another 20? Should I start taking my mortality into account when shopping for clothes? How soon before it's pointless to shop for new clothes?

This is a very strange and terrifying stage of life.

I went to a wedding last weekend.  Had to wear a suit.  No problem because I have a fairly new one.  The white button-down that I typically wear with it had a bit of blood on the collar where I had nicked myself shaving.  Fortunately I had a second white shirt in my closet as a back-up.  As I was putting it on I noticed that it had a drycleaning tag on it dated 1997.  The good part is that I can still wear it....I guess.

I have no heirs. If i have any pets when i croak then whatver i have left goes to their care and the person/s taking care of them.

Just enough life insurance so I get a nice viking funeral along with 5 gorgeous prostitutes as wailers.

No dinner with whores for me. Got my hands full with Mrs. Brat.

But she did pay for dinner this afternoon.

Had dinner at Perry’s Steakhouse late this afternoon (for my 78th).
Luckily they offer a senior 3 course special (6 choices in each course) from 4-6pm, so we both ordered that. She had the onion soup, fried shrimp, & crème Brûlée.
I had the Caesar salad, 6 ounce filet, & “flourless” chocolate cake.
All darn good….as it should be even for the discounted Geezer Special.
We had a surprise visitor at the end of our meal, #1 son was entertaining bank clients (some Alabama cattlemen) in the bar area and popped over to our table for a few minutes.

Brisket, posting from the Heart Hospital. Another episode of a fib.  Yay.  And this time, the first try at electro cardioversion didn’t work.  So, waiting on my guy (Kessler) to come in and offer thoughts, and hopefully try again.

And yeah, seems I’ll be scheduling an ablation in the next few weeks, because this shit is getting old.  Fast.

Kessler got it done. I told him what the ER doc had done, he rolled his eyes, and took care of business in 10 mins. I got the ride the lightning again, worked like a charm.

And yeah, scheduling the ablation for January sometime.

A-fib is a nuisance, albeit a dangerous one. But it’s also exhausting and wildly inconvenient. I was literally in the last, crucial hours of an out of town mediation yesterday when the episode started. I didn’t tell anyone till we got the deal done, and I said “gotta go!” I let my law partner drive me back to Austin, straight to the Heart Hospital.

Lower back seized up Sunday night, as I placed the last piece of clothing in my suitcase for a NYC trip early Monday morning.  Was locked up on the floor for about 20 minutes.  Somehow ground it out for the trip to NYC and back, and got to see chiro yesterday.  Usually it's better in a day or two (this is the 3rd time this has happened), but because of the travel and no rest, I'm still really locked up.  This stinks.

eesh - sorry man. If it's any consolation my dad got ablated two months ago after two unsuccessful cardioversions and it seems to have worked (knock on wood) because the apple watch I got him reports normal rhythm.
I'm trying to get him to tattoo "CTRL+ALT+DEL" over his heart.

My first Urologist was a younger female. The first time I had a digital exam she snapped on the gloves, lubed up and said "bend over, it's time for the unpleasant part." I turned around and said "I'm pretty sure the most unpleasant part of this is going to be your view".
