By the way - what happened in the 12th Century (1101-1200) that makes you repeatedly refer to that time period? What history are you reading?

  • The short-lived Almohad Caliphate and the rise of Abdallah ibn Tumart (as the Mahdi) to defeat the fundamentalist Almohad Caliphate?
  • Knight Templars decision to guard the road to Jerusalem for Crusaders?
  • Roman Catholics deciding Christians must not kill Christians with crossbows, but using a crossbow on Muslims was in keeping with the Church?
  • Portugal rejecting Moorish rule?
  • Kurdish Imad al-Din Zangi extending his power against other Muslims?
  • The failed Christian attempt to seize control over Damascus?
  • Saladin retakes Palestine, including Jerusalem, for Islam. There is no pillaging or slaughter of non-combatants – as there had been when the Crusaders took Jerusalem in 1099. There are now about 1,000 Jewish families in all of Palestine. Before the Christian crusaders and their killings the Jews numbered about 300,000. Saladin is to acquire a reputation in Europe as a chivalrous knight.
  • The beginning of the Third Crusade?
  • Richard the Lionhearted reconquers Jerusalem and slaughters 4000 Muslim prisoners of war?

Again - why did you pick the 12th Century out of all the centuries before and after the 12th Century?  It is not the century most would look at when choosing the low point of Islam (and many believe that was a horrible century for Christian ethics, morals and adherence to the message of Christ (love)).

At risk of being a pedant, Richard never retook Jerusalem, spending most of his time reinforcing the fortresses between the city and the coast and Jaffa (hence the need for the 4th Crusade).

Personally I blame Orlando Bloom.  Eva Green there for the taking and all he had to do was kill Guy.

I for one am very happy that we have taken major steps in defeating ISIS in Syria by *checks notes* bombing positions held by the most experienced and effective liquidators of ISIS headchoppers in the Syrian theatre.

Good thing we got rid of Saddam Hussein who, although a thug and an asshole, was a major check on Iranian power in the region. And it’s a good thing we reneged on the JPCOA so we could subvert the moderate Hassan Rouhani and help give more power back to the Iranian hardliners.

I think that is allowed.

Get a grip dude.

This shit is a training exercise compared to how the US fights actual wars against countries with a real military.

Gulf War 1, we bombed Iraq from January 17 - Feb 23,  over 100,000 sorties and 88,500 tons worth of bombs.

Gulf War 2, we dropped 54.6 tons of bombs in September, before Congress even authorized hostilities. We pounded them in the meantime and didn't invade until towards the end of March.

You now how aggy always screamed Texas was buying players, and we always said everyone would know if we were, and now everyone can see the truth of that due to NIL?

Everyone will know if we actually decide to go to war with Iran.

“Sir, Iran is really pissing us off.”

“Ok, let’s do something. Let’s bomb Iraq.”

“Yes sir! Wait? Wut?”

It’s the old “Alabama just committed dozens of recruiting violations….the NCAA is gonna punish the SHIT out of UAB!”
Or, you know, the bad guys here are not confined to the borders of Iran. Back in the day, we killed a shitload of Germans in places that weren’t Germany.

To make things more interesting, there are currently at least 3 (and up to 7) B-2 bombers that have been staged to Diego Garcia, away from the US base where they normally are based. There are 3 aircraft visible in satellite photos, parked right next to the 4 special purpose hangars built for the B-2, which might well also have a B-2 inside right now.

Apparently, as they were flying out that way, the B-2 were communicating on open frequencies, so people could identify the call signs as B-2 aircraft. Not sure if that is typical or not, but aircraft nerds or such managed to pick up at least 5 call signs for B-2 aircraft, one of which had to make an emergency landing at Pearl Harbor.

Certainly the threat of destruction at the hands of the US military will make them less likely to develop an atomic bomb.

I think the reasoning is that they are making a bomb regardless, so it's last ditch desperation.

I read today that what took a year in Obama's day to enrich the uranimum and make a nuke, they can now do in days and since Trump's election they've gone from enriching 16 lbs of uranium per month to 75 lbs (and apparently for civilian use you only need a fraction of that, so clearly they are building).

It's a moot point, they getting nukes if they don't already have them by summer. The questions become, so what? What then?

Also, editing to add, it should be noted that Iran being belligerent is bipartisan. Under Biden they gave him a hard time and stonewalled Biden's admin in talks and stiff-armed UN inspectors after being more or less busted when investigators tried to get access to inspect sites Iran never declared and were off-radar using, that had Uranium traces and footprints.

Iran gonna Iran.

At this point Iran having nukes isn't any more dangerous and insane than trump and Putin having them. With what has happened in the US every country in the world is insane if they aren't doing everything possible to get their own nukes.

This.  If you wanted to pursue a path that incentivized every single country on earth to get nukes of their own, it would look IDENTICAL to the path we're on right now.

Dumbest.  Fucking.  Timeline.

So then you guys see the dilemma.

Talks, sanctions, plans (e.g. The Obama and to a lesser extent the Biden way) doesn't work because Iran is disingenous.

Threats and Sabre-Rattling (e.g. The Trump way) doesn't work, it incentives and speeds up development (which is already sped up over years past due to advancements)

Nothing works, so we will fight over them or with them.

Is there a seperate ledge for nuclear war / WWIII or is it shared with the Fall of the American Republic ledge?
