The Avengers embody America

William F Buckley has to be turning over in his grave at what his magazine has become.

And wow, someone just saw there was a black Avenger and made a big assumption.

and Black Panther personifies America’s long, fraught history of race animosity turned proud multiculturalism.

Psst, Black Panther isn't American. He's an African. But good try.

Lulz.

Maybe he meant Sam, but all black people look alike.

I mean, other than the fact that this sentiment is something that the MAGAs and our current leadership openly and outwardly HATE, sure....

Multiculturalism is an evil -- that's kinda written in stone in the book of MAGA.  Seriously, is the author paying ZERO attention to the dominant rhetoric from our governing group and their very vocal supporters?

Certainly a bit biased, and they go too hard on James Bond. But I agree with many of their points.

"How could Americans have so much sexual energy?"

Lol. That article is full of shit.  The average American tourist is overweight, underdressed, past midlife, and barely has sex at all with their spouse. They certainly aren't Captain America and Iron Man.

Not surprised that the national review is stuck in the 40s. In the early 40s, Europe was at war.  In the late 40s, Europe was still crawling around in the rubble.  America was awesome and rich in comparison, and the only country with young men left.  Returning to a time when we were the only country with working industry in the world isn't really a sustainable goal.

These days young single travellers with decent personalities from anywhere do well anywhere. Euros, Aussies, and Latinos usually have the better personalities for it, but Americans and Asians do alright too.

And all tourist cities hate tourists but love tourist money. If anything, Americans are hated a little bit more because they insist upon themselves much like this article does.

But when Parliament walks into a Paris cafe with jorts and a fanny pack, hands the waiter this article, and talks about how great he is, the staff only laughs at him after he leaves.

Yeah we need another good war.

(only somewhat kidding)

"Overseas, people are somewhere between respectful of and awed by us."

Only an American could write such self-important drivel.

Aggie all the way.

"So many people see me in my MAGA/Aggie gear and come up to me. They've heard of us and think we're awesome. They're jealous of us and want to be us. We're just like the animated super-duper heroes that tell us the same thing about ourselves."

No organization of any kind is improved by constant self-congratulation and unfounded certitude about their own excellence.

And it's embarrassing.

I'm not going to give the National Review a click.  Can someone copy and paste the article here?

I prefer Armond's review of endgame which they published previously.

Adults no longer outgrow comic books. Hollywood prefers that they hang on to the adolescent illusion of carefree, escapist pleasure by pretending that the form’s juvenile cynicism is a sign of sophistication — replacing the traditional sources of imaginative thinking. The cultural monopoly represented by the Marvel Cinematic Universe in its latest release, Avengers: Endgame, depends on geeked-up viewers telling themselves that they are having a major cultural experience.
