I've read back a few pages and tried to get resers at a few places mentioned but striking out.  Plus a lot of spots are closed on Mondays.

I will be driving to Florida Monday. Staying the night at the Hilton Canopy downtown. Ill get in around 4ish. Relax shower and head out. Just need something fairly casual but good. Price not really an issue.  I'll be solo so I'd probably prefer to sit at a bar with some good people watching with good food and drinks.   I like all kinds of food.  Would prefer a creole/seafood slant but not big on fried food however.

If I were going to eat Solo in NOLA and price wasn't an option, I'd try to sit at the bar at Restaurant August, but it may be a little fancier than what you are going for.

The bar at GW fins is actually pretty good for people watching, and they serve the full menu there. But it gets crowded.

I've been meaning to try Little Miss at the Four Seasons - it's one of Alon Shaya's restaurants. I've heard good things, but the people watching at the Four Seasons may not be as fun.

Miss River doesn’t have a great bar situation, but Chemin a la Mer upstairs does.

Thanks to both of you.  I'll take these recs and Ill just go to a few of these places and try to get in the bar.  I'll go a bit early in the evening but eventually I should find a decent meal.

I agree wholeheartedly about GW Fins, as its proximity to Bourbon Street makes the people watching entertainment almost a certainty. That said, going to the far end of the bar is the key. When the overweight fatty wearing only lingerie and a tiara stumbles through that door to order a to-go cosmo, you do not want to be her target of opportunity seated next to the door.

Or, fuck it, having read a bunch of you peoples' takes on women on this board, maybe that would work for some of you.

I've got a alert on a table at GW Fins but you guys think I could just get a spot at the bar to eat? Full service?

If you can't get in there, you could go up a couple blocks to Palm & Pine and see if they have availability at their bar. Highly recommend.

Enjoyed the quality combo of Tin Roof (nice craft cocktail bar on the roof of the Pontchartrain hotel) and Igor's (quality dive bar/laundromat).  Definitely a yin yang drinking experience and recommend both for very different reasons.

Yeah, we've eaten at the bar before.  It's the full menu.  I am pretty sure we even had dessert the time we did it.

Was the homeless guy sitting in the middle of St Charles out front of Igor's talking to himself?

Maybe the guy who was in the middle of St Charles by Walgreens... he threw a bottle in the street after a car honked at him.

Was there this past week for a few days. Stayed in Warehouse/CBD because I was in court. Wanted to change it up this time from the usual suspects. Saint John, Vyoone's, Peche, Couvant, and even Meril's were all great.

Following Igor's, the next night we went to Lucky's.  It is decidedly divier and I can't say I really liked it.  Should have gotten drinks at the bar at Mais.

Same owners as Igor’s.

We stopped there before having lunch across the street, and really enjoyed it.   The bartender was great, and a regular came in with his dog and my wife goes nuts (in a positive way) when she sees a dog in a bar.

We must be married to the same woman.

Yup... apparently he once had four bars.  Same model with a laundromat, apartments on top, etc.

Igor died a few years ago. He still owned Checkpoint Charlie’s, but that place is a shithole.

The laundromat was kind of a New Orleans things. Maple Leaf had one. My parents claim they did their laundry while James Booker played.

Stayed at Hotel Saint Vincent in the LGD

back in the early 00's this was my go to cheap hotel. the cab driver would always warn us not to walk around outside the hotel after dark. it was rundown and creepy as fuck back then, i think they said it used to be an orphanage. was shocked to see its current upscale incarnation when i finally made it back to that area in 2022.

Liz Lambert (Hotel San Jose, Austin Motel among others) is part of the group that owns St. Vincent now.

Went to Mojo across the street three times while in town.  That's a beautiful hotel.  Good record store on the same block.

Pretty sure the St Vincent is owned by MML( Perla’s, Lamberts, Clarks, you get the idea) I’m not sure if she is part of that now.

I think Liz Lambert is still part of McGuire Mooreman Lambert Hospitality.

I'm travelling to NO for a week of difficult work, long hours, etc. and the Marriott Metairie is the nearest decent place to my destination.

My problem is, there are a lot of nicer and cooler hotels that are near to a lot of nicer and cooler restaurants, and that place looks online like something from the movie Office Space where there is likely a Bennigans in the lobby and coffeemate in the coffee.

Anyone have any thoughts about the commute from Canal street to Metairie?

If you're suggesting staying downtown and commuting out to Metairie in the early morning, I expect it wouldn't be too painful since it's reverse of what most traffic will be doing. Especially if you're in the Warehouse District and have easy access to the Expressway. Maybe 15 minutes out to Metairie from there?

It shouldn’t be bad at all. The Warehouse District is my favorite area “downtown”.

Same. Close enough for a walk to the Quarter, but far away enough to escape the louder crowds at night. Tons of great restaurants within blocks. Garden District is any easy uber ride.

Anyone ever eaten at Lilette? Apparently Kelce and Swift ate there this week. Don't think I've seen it talked about here.

Yep, it’s a classic. Falls under the radar for tourists but it made the Pic’s Ten Best Restaurants for like a decade straight before they stopped the rankings.

Those are sesame seeds and not sprinkles, so it probably it isn't sweet and is just a mufaletta with dyed sesame seeds on top.

That is correct. The one thing that I don’t like is the chunks of olives instead of a spread. It’s just a better eating experience with tapenade than with the chunks.

Wild, we booked a trip for March and I was just about to search this thread to see if anyone had mentioned it. Looks great. Also already booked GW Fins, which we have not been to yet.
