Thanks!  I'll put that on my list.

BTW, I was going to find a place to watch the Cowboys play on Sunday afternoon.  Got any good recs for a place with good beer, food, but most of all good TVs?

The only time I’ve watched a game down here, it was at a strip club because the cowboys were playing the saints and they had $2 beer.

I'll bring that up, but I have a feeling the GF will shoot it down quickly...

Manning’s has plenty of tvs and booze.
Food has become better.

Great TV setup.   Weren't enough bartenders when I went there about a month ago but I'm guessing that was just an aberration.

After a 2nd visit, I am gonna go ahead and say Brennan’s has the best breakfast in New Orleans.  Everything I’ve had there is perfect.

Have not been since the new chef started, good to hear it's not dropped off.

Willa jeans was fine, but it wasn’t amazing or anything.  Their biscuits are too dense I think.  Hangover bowl was good, but will make you need to take a nap.

Saba was ridiculous .  There were 8 in our group and we did the tasting menu.  The amount of food we got was crazy.  3 kinds of hummus with enough bread to feed an army and then roasted lamb shoulder and 2 whole chickens.  It would have fed 12 or 14.

Well, based on a number of recs from on here, I added GW Fins as our Tuesday reservation.  I'm planning on the Tempura Fin Wings as one of our meals.  What else should we look at trying?  NOTE:  The GF is not an oyster fan (her loss), but I am...

The fins wings are amazing. If they have the royal red shrimp app get that, i could make a meal out of those. And the crispy pork belly. And as said above the scalibut is an excellent choice. Or the black drum with chicken crackling crust. Also the pompano is legit.

I’ve had the swordfish also and liked it.  This time I had the sheepshead and wasn’t crazy about it.  It was Parmesan encrusted and they overcooked it.  The risotto that comes with scalibut has royal red shrimp in it instead of lobster right now.  They didn’t have the app with them though.

I'm sure Commander's Palace has been mentioned but I went recently had a whiskey smash (4).  Best cocktail I've ever had in my life.

First, just decided that we can make a family trip to NOLA work between Xmas and New Years.

Second, after talking up Commanders to the kids for years (they're now 18 and 16), I managed to get us a lunch reservation on Friday.  Turtle soup.  Bread pudding souffle.  And whatever else we order in between...looking forward to it.

Also thinking of a meal at Saba (we're actually meeting some SUPER-Jewish friends in NOLA on the 29th, and we do a lot of cooking and trading gourmet recipes with them, so it seems right up our mutual alley).

Otherwise....I dunno.  Gotta have some poboys.  Gotta have a muffuletta or three.  The usual.

3 lemon wedges

4 fresh spearmint leaves

1 ounce orange curaçao

2 ounces Maker’s Mark

1 sprig fresh spearmint

Muddle the lemon wedges, mint leaves, and curaçao in a bar glass.

Add the bourbon and ice and shake well.

Strain the drink into a rocks glass filled with ice and garnish with the mint sprig.

Serve immediately.

Both Butcher and Stein's make damn good muffulettas.

In other news,  I might be headed for divorce if my wife doesn't get a shrimp poboy from Parkway next trip.

Went to Brennan's for dinner last week. Very meh. I can't believe this place is supposed to be good.

We ate there just before Chef Rushing left to move to the UK and it was bland and overpriced. We had hopes the new chef was better. Antoine's is still firing on all cylinders if you need that old school fine dining fix. We had two great meals there in the past few months.

It’s our site’s fault. If you care enough to redo all those, use https://imgbb.com

well, it's imgur's fault.  they noticed a shit ton of traffic popped up from nowhere when everyone came over here from surly, so turned it off.  then used our for sale/trade board as a pretext to keep it off.

Did not know that imgur was screwed up here.

If I get the chance this weekend, I'll try to clean it up and relink the pics.

Is there an iPhone app I can use to host the pics so I don't have to save them to my computer first?

Solid lineup.

LPG has risen up my list.  Great food, pretty damn good value (lower corkage fee than some as well) and good location for us.  Try the turtle bolognese, if you've never had it there...unusual, but tasty.

Also, love Shaya and it is close to where we stay as well (since right by LPG).  Want to try Saba, but not been yet

So many good Uptown options we love...LPG, Shaya, Upperline, Casamento's, Coquette, Patois, and on and on.  Ready for a NOLA trip now.

We had a great lunch at Pascal Menales yesterday. Raw Oysters, BBQ Shrimp, Pan Roast ( like a seafood casserole ), Short Rib, Stuffed Trout, Lasagna, Pecan Pie and bread pudding.

Then we grabbed 30 lbs of crawfish from Seafood Pot out near Destrehan and took them to my buddies house and had a nice feast for dinner. Seafood Pot is way away from any tourist area of Nola but by far is my favorite place anywhere for seafood boils and worth the drive.

Lunch at Commanders with the fam. The kids had been hearing about it their whole lives, it did not disappoint.

Always start with turtle soup (I had Galatoore’s soup recently, and man, they’re both really close in quality):

I’ve got a place I love to go called Castnet Seafood off Hayne Blvd out on the Lake.
Great seafood market with Po Boys that slam and go hard in the paint.
Best part is the dine in special of 12 beers for $12 served in a mayo bucket with ice.

Atchafaya for dinner. No pics, but started with a charcuterie board with wagyu pastrami that all agreed was one of the best bites of beef we’ve ever had, duck head cheese (I loved it), cracklings (ok), pickled veggies (really good, actually - veggies ended up being a star all over the meal), and boudin balls (very well done).

I had a chickpea harissa soup that sounded a lot better than it was. Clear broth, whole chickpeas. Decent flavor, but nothing outstanding. Would have been better if a chickpea purée was part of the base.

I got reddish on the half shell with crabmeat - definitely well done, but the sautéed greens that came with it were outstanding. Daughter got the sautéed mushroom dish - also good, but the grilled winter squash that came in it was the star.

Wife and son won. She got the steak and scallops combo, and the strip slices and scallops were done perfectly. Side was an interesting veggie melange with French bread croutons and a pesto. And the boy totally won - they had a crabmeat ravioli as an appetizer. He asked if he could just double it for an entree. They did - it was a simple fold over ravioli stuffed with lots of crabs and some shiitakes with a citrus beurre blanc. It was incredible, and he was so happy.

Are we still in 'Nam? I feel like there were once rules.

on the bright side, the post has triggered addition of boudin balls to my NYE menu.
