US may have its deepest team.  Ukraine beat some good teams in Europe.  Nigeria did well in Africa and Qatar who knows.

US 1/2 favorite v. Ukraine

Overall odds to win U20

Nigeria +1200

US +2000

Group D Odds

Team Odds at Bookmaker
USA +220
Nigeria +190
Ukraine +250
Qatar +500

This will be the “Group Of Death.” The USA have won consecutive CONCACAF U-20 championships and have players such as Paris St Germain’s Timothy Weah. Ukraine finished ahead of both England and France when reaching the semifinals of the European U-19 championships last year. Nigeria, runners up in 1980 and 2005, finished fourth in this year’s U-20 African Cup of Nations. Qatar are improving ahead of hosting the 2022 World Cup.

Pick: USA

Looked like shit but playing better now. Couple of decent balls into the area but no one there to finish. Loving the ball movement and control

The tournament is forgivable because third place teams make the knockout stage, but the US better hope Qatar was just really bad because a loss to Nigeria on Monday and it's probably curtains. The US controlled the run of play most of the game but didn't create a lot of chances in the box and had two crucial defensive fuck ups.

And Mexico gets pants’d by Japan, 3-0.  CONCACAF is now 0-4 which includes Honduras losing to New Zealand 5-0

ouch

0-4-1, Panama got a penalty in the 87th minute against Mali to get a 1-1 draw yesterday. Not sure what you can glean from any of this because U20 success doesn't guarantee success upward, but it's still not a good look.

What is the significance of this?  Do these matches pertain towards team’s qualifying to go to the World Cup or just friendly matches to prepare?

The best way to describe what they’re worth:

Sorry guys, I've not been following closely. But no Tyler Adams and Josh Sargent? What gives?

From an article on the MLS website:

RB Leipzig's Tyler Adams could have featured for the U-20s, but wasn't considered.

“What’s important for me is to put the players in a comfortable situation so they do well for the senior national team," Ramos said. "Gregg believes Tyler has moved on from here. He plays in the Bundesliga, he’s doing great there. He’s not even on the 50-man roster.”

Ditto for Werder Bremen striker Josh Sargent.

“We weren’t 100% sure because of the playing time situation, so I did put him on the 50-man roster, but it’s clear that he’s going into the summer with the senior national team," Ramos said. "So it’s best that he continues to move in that direction.”

Honduras is losing 5-0 to Norway.....at halftime

US vs Qatar is at 1:30.  A win and we are through, a draw and we should be through, a loss and it gets pretty dicey.

10-0 now. 15 minutes left.

Norway lost their first two matches as well scoring once and giving up 5. Honduras has now given up 17 goals in the group and scored 0.
