Governor Greg Abbott’s signature gave HB 446 its final okay over the weekend.

The bill, authored by Rep. Joe Moody, D-El Paso, lifts the state ban on carrying brass knuckles, kitty key chains, clubs and other self defense items in public starting September 1, 2019.

I had to image search kitty kat keychain.  Looks like I've got some stocking stuffers for Christmas figured out now.

... The eyes of the cat become finger holes and the ears become spikes when clutched in your hand to create an excellent means of surprise-defense against an attacker. ...

Can be used for punching, slashing and tearing. Saves your hand from injury while wreaking havoc on the assailant. A force multiplier making your strikes much more effective. So cute, all your friends will want the Cat Keychain for their self defense. Colors available: Black, Pink, Gold, Blue ,White, Red, Copper, Purple, Dark Pink, Neon Green and Shiny Gold

I actually don't see where HB 446 addresses clubs/tomahawks at all:

https://capitol.texas.gov/tlodocs/86R/billtext/html/HB00446H.htm

KHOU's mention of clubs may have just been poor reporting.

Edit:  better link to the bill text shows they did strike out mention of clubs, so game on for tomahawk season I guess:

I think, way back in the day, things like "knuckles" and "throwing stars" were lumped in with "Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon" 46.02, and 46.05 was directed to machine guns, sawed-off shotguns, zip guns, and firearm type weapons.

I distinctly remember UCW being a common offense for martial-arts type weapons in the 80s and 90s, nunchaku, stars, knuckle-type things.

There's like a buttload of gangs in Texas. This one gang kept wanting me to join because I'm pretty good with a bowstaff.

My dad got arrested in Texas for having brass knuckles in his truck. (They were a joke gift.)

He was 72. I told him he was doing something right.

He's lucky he wasn't shot instead.

Had to reread the last sentence a couple of times.

I saw open hatchet and my mind instantly went to snatch.

A hatchet reminds you of a vagina? You need to hang out with a better class of woman.

My father gave me this badass, razor-sharp hatchet. I swear I could shave with this thing. I'm going to start going around open hatchet. I will laugh at people with machetes.

You’re not a gnat, are ya bug?

I once had a mace mounted on my bedroom wall in middle school alongside the sword and Chinese throwing stars. Maybe that thing is still in storage somewhere.

Your grandpa never said “her lady parts looked like an axe wound on a wire-haired hog”?

Seriously, a good claw hammer can lay waste if the spirit is willing.

Actually, even a  bad claw hammer.
