This doesn’t help you

You believe the video was intentionally edited as Maddow claimed?  Do you also believe that 9/11 was an inside job?

MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow led her show Tuesday night with an explosive allegation: The administration of President Trump had intentionally buried a question asked of Russian President Vladimir Putin during last week’s news conference in Helsinki. Not an insignificant question, either. The one about whether or not Putin wanted Trump to win.

“We can report tonight that the White House video of that exchange has also skilfully cut out that question from the Reuters reporter as if it didn’t happen,” Maddow claimed.

Quote

Our transcript and the White House’s were apparently based on the feed that runs only in the right channel. A White House official told CNN’s Abby Phillip that its transcript “did not have Mason’s audio turned up in time,” referring to Reuters reporter Jeff Mason, who asked the question.

This is not a conspiracy from the White House. While the White House certainly has a track record of misrepresenting facts, this would have been a remarkably futile revision of reality to attempt. As it turns out, they didn’t.

What are your thoughts on UFOs?

So, what happened after the mistake was discovered?

The mistake was disseminated to right wing trolls in order to cite it out of context as evidence of equal dishonesty among liberal journalists.

Duh!

You're actually getting trolled from the left in this case.

So multiple outlets, including MSNBC, reported on it based off the White House own release (without the question) and then acknowledged it changed later.

CONSPIRACY!

honest question, did you simply just turn to google and type “Rachel Maddow conspiracy” and copy paste the result? She went to Oxford you big dummy. She is easily one of the more qualified commentators on cable, and puts in more work than the entirety of Conservative media.

I don’t care if others made false the claim, without evidence, that the White House intentionally altered the recording. I also don’t care that about where she went to school. There are plenty of insane right wingers who graduated from elite schools. She doesn’t do any real investigative reporting. She’s a pundit, not a journalist, just like the talking heads on FNC.

Well, yeah. Everyone knows that.

It’s funny watching Fozzz describe Russia Today as objective journalism in one thread and then go on a jihad against Russia biggest critic in the MSM.

One might think he was trolling.

Come on, dude, it's journalism that just happens to be funded by the Russian government. That doesn't mean it's not objective. Russia has a long history of being hands off when it comes to journalists.

Why the fuck are you posting an ad from 2016?  Dumb people on Twitter posting outrage porn from 6 years ago.  And the worst poster on Surly then necrobumping a thread to post it.  Post less.

So you woke up this morning and decided to be taken aback by a 5+ year old commercial with the message “it takes a village.”

Thank you Joe Biden for making life so much easier and care-free that people have to voluntarily rewatch old commercials to be scared.

Someone back in the day used to comment on how EMAW would always post at 3:00 or 4:00 in the morning too.

Although I don't think Bravo is EMAW.  Or is he?

Spoiler

He's probably not.

I don't remember the old Kansas State fan EMAW ever taking pictures of himself flipping off his UT diploma.  Although it's not like a KSU fan couldn't find a fake UT diploma to flip off either.  Who knows?

Elon Musk has called MSNBC “the utter scum of the Earth.” He has said the channel “peddles puerile propaganda.” Just a few days ago he said, “MSNBC is going down.” And now he is posting memes about buying the channel.

Conventional wisdom holds that Musk — the world’s richest man and key Donald Trump ally — and his friends are just joking. But Musk’s posts are adding to the anxiety that MSNBC staffers are feeling about the reelection of Donald Trump and the recently announced spinoff of Comcast’s cable channels.

I spent Sunday on the phone with sources to gauge what might be going on. I learned that more than one benevolent billionaire with liberal bonafides has already reached out to acquaintances at MSNBC to express interest in buying the cable channel. The inbound interest was reassuring, one of the sources said, since it showed that oppositional figures like Musk (who famously bought Twitter to blow it up) would not be the only potential suitors.

From chatgpt (so don't know how reliable) but it sounds like it was a rating cliff dive post the Trump win. I am guessing we just don't have the stomach to hear about his horrors on a daily basis and that volume and ratings would pick up mid terms or next election cycle:

Joy Reid was dismissed from MSNBC due to a combination of declining ratings and a strategic programming overhaul under the network's new president, Rebecca Kutler. Following the 2024 election, "The ReidOut" experienced a significant drop in viewership, with Nielsen Media Research reporting a nearly 53% decline in MSNBC's primetime ratings by December.

This downturn prompted the network to reassess its lineup, leading to the cancellation of Reid's show.

53% crash in ratings is pretty damning.

Black social media is calling bullshit on this. MSNBC also canceled the shows of Katie Fang, Jonathan Caepart, and Ayman Mohyeldin. and fired the president of the network, Rashida Jones. Joy’s show drew 900,000 to 1,000.000 viewers routinely, while Morning Joe can’t break 650,000. Nobody will mention that Joy beat Andersen Cooper and Eric Burnett routinely and by a lot.  I agree. Throw in Charles Brown’s firing, and this is Trump’s Black History month massacre. And he crowing about all over social media like the petty Betty bitch he is.

Feels like a stretch to say “nah, Nielsen media company ratings are fake, this is racist” When those numbers should be, ostensibly, easy to fact check and verify (or nullify). Right?

Also not understanding the outrage of Brown’s firing. If you are not a MAGAT and still have a job, the axe has just not hit you yet. You should be preparing for an exit proactively.

Katie Garfield with Bloomberg TV is good. Matt Levine with Bloomberg as well (podcast).

BloombergTV is the best and my go to. Then CNBC, then stabbing forks in my eyes and ears.

I have no idea what the ratings are/were or care. I’m just saying it was a bad show.

1. Nobody should give a shit about MSNBC.

2. C'mon, it's obviously a Trumpian purge, which is hilariously stupid for the same reason CNN always trying to steer further to the right is always hilariously stupid. Their only possible audience is on the left and fucking hates Trump. They know how this dynamic works, they saw it from 2017-2020. They're voluntarily tanking their business to keep Trump happy.

The non-Fox News shows are all losing money. One reason is that many of the top names are getting paid as if their ratings were higher. My understanding is that all on-air talent has been approached about taking significant pay decreases. If they're not open to that, they're done.

Now if an on-air talent has a sizable audience they may well likely earn more money if they can take a percentage of their audience to their own platform: substack, youtube, podcast, etc.

The only viable solution for CNN and MSNBC is to merge. They can and should retain multiple brands and channels, but a merger would significantly reduce costs.
