Suckuzz?  You could be standing in a few feet of cool water taking those photos.  Instead?  You chose to stand on a hot sidewalk.  Yes, some of us really are living the dream.

I’ve spent the last 5 days in Durango, CO. It’s like how I imagine heaven feels in August.
I've been working in Portland, Maine since the beginning of July. It's hilarious when they bitch about "this godawful heat" when it gets up in the low 80's.

I stepped out of the shade......and into the Light. I peacefully returned to the cool shade of the Cypress......and my cold Bud Light waiting there for me.

Listen to this man.. he's in pre-law.. or pre-med.  Whatever, what's the difference?

https://www.sciencealert.com/a-mini-ice-age-is-coming-in-the-next-15-years
A new model that predicts the solar cycles more accurately than ever before has suggested that solar magnetic activity will drop by 60 percent between 2030 and 2040, which means in just 15 years’ time, Earth could sink into what researchers are calling a mini ice age.

I'll drink to skiing in Texas!

How about a late season snow or ice game at DKR?

Hottest day of the year coming up tomorrow (13th).  105° .

Then it pulls back to a brisk 100°-101°

Looks like winter's arriving early!

I did see 2 weeks from now, everything is down back to around 95 which I think is the normal for Austin in late August.  I'm really just getting used to ignoring August.  Nobody my age with kids bothers to go through the bullshit of, "Oh, let's be active and do something outdoors."  Everybody just shuts the fuck up and gets ready for school inside.  It's the long slow burnoff of September that's getting to be the grind.  90-95 every day still with balmy ass nights in the high 80's with humidity all the way until the OU game/ACL Music Fesstival.  That's the beating.  Yeah sure, the resuming of yoga pants helps a bit, but the douchebags in North Face vests somehow negate that splendor.

6 more weeks of true, utter bullshit.  Let's just tell ourselves that.  I gotta switch back to beer.

makes me feel better.  Mine died in a hot parking lot off I-35.   Surface temp just 2-3 feet off that asphalt had to be close to 130 or so.  After the jump, took it home and it was reading 840 outta 900cca. And it’s 9 months old as well.  So not a great reading. But good enough.

Took it to where I bought the battery to verify warranty and see if they had any other ideas.  Of course the guy immediately started trying to sell me on a new starter.  I asked if the heat coulda done this.   Says he hasn’t seen anything like that this summer but it’s probably my starter.  Which is bullshit.  I need to start carrying my jumper box with me instead of just cables I guess.  Another six weeks of this shit.

Just stepped outside for a bit:  damn it’s nice out today. 73 with a light breeze.

I’m in the “it feels more than 50% hotter than PdM’s temperature” zone right now.   102 with a 114 heat index at 1:30.

This shit is damaging my will to be outside

Due to high electricity use in Texas, ERCOT declared "EEA 1".    Whatever that is.  Their website is down.

They are asking users to conserve electricity until 7PM.

EEA 1 event means available capacity dropped below a certain threshold, or reserve. Power stations on the ERCOT grid generate enough electricity to cover forecasted demand throughout the day, but the actual demand this afternoon was dipping into that reserve. We set a record for peak generation yesterday btw.

This temperature is making me surly. May was nice with daytime highs averaging a little more than a degree below normal. June was about average. But, holy shit, our daytime highs are running four degrees more than normal so far this month.

The amount of moisture in the air is about the same.

While the amount of moisture in the air may be about the same, the ability of the air to absorb moisture isn't. At least sweat works when it is hot and dry. At 81 degrees and 85% humidity you are going to sweat through half of your clothes sitting still in the shade with a fan blowing on you. A little breeze in the shade at 100 degrees and low humidity doesn't really feel that bad.

That's all well and good, but how about an update on MFCDangerGirl?

Well done, sir.  @bolverkwe do need an update.

I've had to add 2 "auxiliary" air conditioners to augment the central AC in my little cottage.  Picked up 2 of those Toshiba portable units from Home Depot, one for the master bedroom and one for the sunroom.

I can't recall my last update, so I'll start with her leaving New Orleans this past January and moving back to San Antonio to take care of her older sister who is, unbelievably, more of a mess than she is. They live together in a little house she bought using what little that's left of the inheritance she got from her dad's passing 3-4 years ago. The last I heard, she also owns another house in SA that she had been planning to fix up and use for Airbnb income. Not sure what kind of progress she's made on that project.

Perfectly gruntled in the Big D today. Has yet to hit 90 and it's overcast with a little drizzle.

Perfect respite from the 110 heat index from hell.

Yeah...100 miles south, not the case.  102 and continuing upward right now.  2 mph wind.  Getting more humid.  112 heat index
