I liked everything you said, except Obama was not a Senator when the Iraq War vote came up.

I was positive he voted against the Iraq War.  I remembered him being touted as the "only one on the stage" who didn't vote to go to Iraq.  Kind of a cheeky accolade if he didn't favor an invasion because HE WASN'T EVEN FUCKING THERE.  My bad and noted.

He was vehemently against it and talked about being against it.  But he didn't get to the Senate until 2005.

Lulz what's the best conservative bitch move?

1) asking for evidence of why Donald should be impeached, and then disappearing when the evidence is given

Or

2) going hard in the paint to defend Donald, and then saying some sort of version of "but he's not my guy" "I hate him" "I'll be glad when he's gone" etc etc

I personally like #2. When Donald finally leaves office, it will be the reverse of Woodstock. You won't be able to find anyone who voted for him, liked him, or supported him. The GOP will pretend he didn't exist and if anyone calls them out, they will say but not me, I didn't support him!

And don't assume that people who favor impeachment proceedings are all wild-eyed, emotional tyrants blinded by rage.  That's an infantile notion that ignores nuance.  There are definitely some angry and irrational Trump haters, but maintaining the basic standards of the entire fucking model of a 243-year-old democracy isn't a hysterically senseless sentiment.

I'm actually on record in this ravenous hive of a forum for not favoring impeachment.  But you'd have to be a broad brush rube to not be able to fathom the intent of everyone who'd enjoy not setting the precedent for being free from all legal accountability by simply just stuffing your subpoena in the glove box.

Who knew, after all of these years, that "failure to appear" was how you become impervious to criminal law?  You wasted a lot of money, O.J. Simpson.  Dumbass.

How are those laws working out for you? You have some misconception that even though laws exist or don't exist that they actually do anything to help the american public.

Guess what bro - Weed is federally illegal, who seems to give a fuck about that? absolutely no one.

Guess what bro - ABORTION is federally LEGAL, who seems to give a fuck about that? absolutely no one.

Stop acting like you live in some idealistic republic that is representative of what it's people want and need and that the legislation it puts out is actually meaningful. It's all a fucking sham at this point why should the office of the President be any different? Look I understand that your notion of what is sacred about this country is being trampled on and simply ignoring this and not impeaching trump goes against every fiber of what you stand for and what this country should stand for, but check into reality - it's a fucking shitshow around here.

The way we will take back our government and make it have meaning is to stop electing fucking clowns and puppets of a party and start using our votes to make things happen. Our version of democracy is a representative government that represents absolutely fucking no one except for special interest groups and the wealthy. Technology is at a point where our current state of "democracy" is laughable, electoral college? out of fucking date, needing to be in session to vote on legislature? out of fucking date, needing to package gigantic legislation together to make people from over here and over there? out of fucking date.

Check this animation out - it's a wonderful illustration of how fucked our government is and how fundamentally stupid it is to think that this is representative of legislation the people of our country deserve and need. This is even out dated as of now, I'd love to see it go all the way through last year though.

Voter turnout is complete garbage compared to any other developed country in the world and no one gives 2 fucks about what the federal government is up to, because at the state and local level apparently we can make whatever laws we want regardless of what "they say in washington". Who's gonna fucking stop us? Cheetoh god? The supreme court? Congress? the fucking FBI?

So your solution to the shitshow is to prove to people that nothing fucking matters by letting the President be above the law that would put the rest of us in jail?

Given the current power dynamics in Washington, there is literally no way to make the president of the United States accountable under the law as long as he is the president. Holding him accountable will only happen once he is no longer president.

This is so fucking sad it tears me up inside, but it's the truth I have resigned to believing and that my friends is the saddest thing. It's not that I don't want to vehemently agree with @Chooky or @hobbes2702

So you're basically telling us that we're too emotional and unhinged and bleak with resentment to understand the bigger picture while you simultaneously revel in a sense of despair and and an antiquated state of political existentialism?  If so, that's cool too.  But I got the same content and angst-riddled discourse from a teenage lesbian who had a purple mullet and a wallet chain on instagram.  Don't get me wrong, I'm all on board with you and the disenchanted lesbian with the "Fuck It" ethos, but don't patronize like you're shedding new light.

I laughed at all the morons saying "Hillary is gonna get perp walked!". This is equally as laughable.

Trump's lawyer is currently in prison for committing a crime at Trump's direction, a fact which is recognized in his guilty plea filed with the court.  Trump is already for all intents and purposes an unindicted co-conspirator. But yeah, you can go head and keep pretending if you really need to justify your love for Trump that his criminality is just as fictitious as the "Hillary killed Seth Rich!" stories.

Lulz. Find a post that says I love Trump. Hell, in this thread alone I've said "I want Trump out". But keep obfuscating the truth as it suits your jerk-porn of Trump sitting in a cell.

I told you if you invited non-Aryans to the Trump Love meetings that they'd tell on us.

Actually, Trump is too timid for me. Makes a lot of noise about murderers and rapists in Mexico, yet won't let us attack them, wipe them out, and drink tequila shots out of their skulls. That's what Attila or Andrew Jackson would do. Instead we get offered a freakin Maginot Line to squat behind like beaten existentialist froggery, Ooh please monsieur Cartel, please to not to 'urt us, ah hawn hawn hawn.

The consequences will be much worse for everyone if Trump isn’t impeached.  Trump getting a second term is the least of my worries too.  Yeah, he’s dangerous and we should try to vote him out in the election but there’s a constitutional check that is in permanent jeopardy if this House fails to impeach him.

If Trump isn’t impeached for what has been laid out in the Mueller Report alone, it will be astronomically harder to impeach any president in the future, regardless of the crimes.  No reasonable citizen should want that.   The framers put impeachment in the constitution specifically for situations like Trump.

Impeaching Trump, even if the Senate doesn’t convict, is a deterrent for future presidents with autocratic tendencies.  Not impeaching Trump will only embolden future tyrants to abuse and consolidate their power more brazenly.  That fucks everyone and I can promise you the next President we have that wants to be a monarch will not be a laughingstock and imbecile like Trump.

Also, given the Democrats' usual tactical talent, I could see them shooting their own feet off with this.

I clicked the icon to see who voted against removal. The usual suspects and you. It's weird to see your name among those who voted not to remove. You're like the knife among the ten thousand forks.

Too many things are being normalized for us to return to normal. Holding SCOTUS nominees hostage for over a year, ignoring subpoenas, claiming blanket exec. privilege, etc.

I think Trump wants to be impeached, and he wants it as close to the election as possible b/c there's no way he's getting convicted. I also think Pelosi knows this, and she's trying like hell not to give him what he wants. So he shits on the Constitution on a daily basis, and she concocts new ways of dealing with it, like insulting him and making provocative comments.

There is a mechanism built-in by the Founders to deal with this. I think Nancy is going to run out of time, and Trump will get the red meat of the scarlet "I" on his chest that the 40% will love.

I don’t see anything indicating Trump wants to be impeached.  If he wanted to be impeached, he’d be much more cooperative.  “Hey Congress, here’s all my tax documents and financial records for the last 10 years, you’re going to want to look closely at the shell companies and by the way, I totally obstructed justice on live television, in your faces.  Bring it on!”

Mussolini took this approach when he was destroying democracy.  He took responsibility for his crimes up front and declared himself dictator because no one would stop him.

Trump strikes me as a vulnerable man constantly on the run.  He doesn’t want to be impeached and his strategy is to run out the clock by obstructing justice.  His strategy is working because Pelosi is also trying to run out the clock.  She never wanted to impeach Trump, facts be damned.  Plus, if by chance (extremely slim) Trump resigned or decided not to run over the embarrassing spectacle of impeachment, it would make Joe Biden’s campaign irrelevant.

Establishment democrats are clearly still running shit and they need Trump on the ballot in 2020 to keep it that way.

Donald Trump absolutely fucking doesn’t want to be impeached. It’s amazing how many Democrats exceed even Trumpkins at thinking he has a secret plan.

I think he doesn't know yet whether he wants to be impeached or not. Yet. This whole presidency has been a financial grab and he's balancing how many more Trump property golf outings there can be. How many more Chinese patents can Ivanna get? How many more times can Kush go to Saudi and Qatar?  Then he will decide.

It’s not sad. The logic behind not holding a “good” president accountable is sound. It’s just that we are testing the  theory in 2016-2019 with the one example that breaks the rule.

People will always be dumb. Most folk will be knowledgeable. There will always be some heads that think they know what’s best for everyone else. It’s been that way since before 1789 and will remain that way after 2020.

impeach now bc that’s what the emoluments clause dictates. Pelosi dropping the ball by choosing party over country. Follow the constitution and our ideals and we might have a chance. Go astray and we end up more banana every day.

If anyone hasn't noticed, there's a veritable roll call happening on the Hill where now, almost daily, House reps are making individual statements directed to their constituents and greater America explaining their rationale for supporting impeachment/impeachment inquiry.  Yesterday it was one of Pelosi's closest allies in House Dem leadership.  And there's another one today.  This is the opposite of equivocation.  There is a deliberate pace being set with a known outcome.

It's a good approach on multiple levels.  It keeps the incremental march to impeachment a part of the daily news and sustains daily pressure on Trump.  It marinates the public for the sustained time it takes for people to gather their own facts and understanding (very important).  It allows individual members to demonstrate their independence in arriving at an impeachment decision as opposed to being kowtowed for political expediency.  It keeps the momentum and conversation going while the House wrangles with WH obstruction through the courts.  Once the foundation is laid by the courts around total WH obstruction of House investigation, the impeachment process will be ready to accelerate.
