The Sudden Unpopularity of Neoliberal Centrists

What is it about the populist left movement so far that tells you that enthusiasm among voters is low? The two candidates with the most donors are Sanders and Warren.

I worry that enthusiasm among the trumpkins is higher.  I do think Warren's message is resonating with the centrists more though.  She is damn good at articulating the problems and her solutions.  It's going to be hard to pull me away from her if she keeps going like she is now.

Only 13% of the entire Democratic base wants policies left of Obama. There is not a massive backlash against moderate-left policies. It's a very loud group of naive, self-important, extreme leftists that think if they shout louder and more frequently on Twitter that people will stop rolling their eyes at them.

There might be a shift against populism and elitism. You see a lot of moderates on both sides growing tired of wealth disparity and corporatism. That's entirely different than being part of the less than 6% of our country that wants a shift towards socialism.

The Democratic Party today (and most of the left on this board as well) has confused number of megaphones with number of people.  The progressive left wing does not have near the numbers in it the moderate, old school liberal/blue collar worker wing of the party has.  What it does have though is a state of the art Wall of Sound P.A. system while the old guard is using a couple of tin cans tied with a piece of string.

There are great reasons to believe in Warren as a left(ish) populist, of course, but the boosterism for Warren among centrists is nothing more than self-interest. Looking at these maps, it's perfectly clear why this website's votes went 75+% to Warren/Buttigieg.

Dr. West hits the nail on the head again. What a guy to have campaigning for you.

Neoliberal centrists lack the ability to put anyone before themselves. They might talk the talk but are very rarely walking the walk. Then you still have the ones actively fighting progress under the guise of a progressive.

Centrists have been comfortable and that comfort has numbed their ability to show compassion empathy and love for their fellow human being. Literally able to forget the struggles of others once a shiny toy distracts them. Good news is things are starting to get real uncomfortable around here. A lot of mirrors being stared into is not a bad thing. Thanks Trump.

You're not wrong.

Alabama map is awesome because superficially it looks like Roy Moore counties went strongly Sanders. One a more furrowed-brow second thought, it's not the Roy Moore voters in the hills sending money so strongly to Bernie, rather it's cantankerous leftist hillbillies* who also inhabit those areas.

In the more washed-out blue, those are likely more Democrat-Party-leaning areas who have split their donations more evenly.

*Not an insult. If you want to drink good homebrew, cantankerous leftist hillbilly is your first choice.
