The latest plant-based faux meat is upon us. Frankly, I have a lot more hope for the lab-grown flesh concept, but my favorite local burger joint (Grub Burger Bar) just sent me a promotional for the stuff.

Has anyone partaken yet? And more to the point, does it look real enough that I can tell my vegetarian daughter that's what I'm eating, even though I actually ordered from the side of the menu that moos?

We have a fast-food mex joint out here, "Del Taco".  They have "Beyond Tacos".  I haven't tried one yet, but I intend to do so soon.
But why? Especially for an extra two bucks or whatever.

Heard an ad for these within the last 48 hours in Denver.

I didn't even know that Denver had a Del Taco.

Worried about the animals, so heres a substitute that isnt the real thing but still a reminder of the actual slaughter of animals.

I'm open to trying some form of these. If it can approximate the taste and texture of real meat, then why not.  Meat at most fast food joints tastes like shit to begin with.

I do believe this is what Plowburger uses and it's fantastic.

Plowburger sounds like Steel Shank opened a fast food joint.

I gave the inventor's mom beyond meat.

I wish I had bought some stock a couple of weeks ago.

Hopefully you meant LIVEstock.

😉

P.S.  The answer to not eating meat in your fast food, IS TO NOT EAT FAST FOOD! That's even healthier than eating fake-meat-fast-food, right?

P.P.S. Also, there's always JITB tacos; no meat there.

Look at the ingredients, fuck that shit. But I wish I would have invested, that stock is insane.

This doesn't stimulate your taste buds?

While i get why this might appeal to vegetarians , tree huggers, and PETA members it 's not that much healthier. Beyond burger wins on cholesterol but loses on sodium.

Wife doesn't eat beef.

The Impossible Burger is probably the best non meat burger substitute out there.

I've had bites and it's really good and as close to a real burger as you'll get.

Even if you don't care about animal wellbeing, adopting at least a partially plant-based diet can have a positive greenhouse gas impact. And now I'll see myself out.

Yeah if you put enough salt on cardboard it will taste fine. Vegans with high blood pressure for the win!

Yeah, it’s not meat but it’s not remotely healthy. It has more saturated fat than lean beef.

Wife (no pics) brought some home from Whole Foods tonight. Not bad, but nothing I'd be excited to try again, especially after seeing the amount of sodium. Thanks...

...which is an excellent argument for lab grown meat, and grass fed herds. But it doesn't change the fact that pea protein powder and liquid smoke is no substitute for ground sirloin.

This. Impossible is way better. Hopdoddy, Pluckers, and Red Robin are serving them.

I’ve had the Impossible Burger and it tasted like your average salty but relatively flavorless fast food burger. It tasted like bun and condiments.

"I don't know why they call this hamburger helper it does just fine by itself."

I totally get the people that go vegetarian or vegan for health reasons.

I laugh at the ones that do it for some concern for animal suffering. How many animals through the ages do you think had to die to fertilize the soil, and how many animals were killed or lost their habitat to clear land for crops?

I just laugh at vegans for any reason.

The lab-grown meat is the future. Maybe not in our lifetimes, but it's going to be the only (mass) way.
