Looks like Miranda might be our regular (or semi regular) rf when she’s not pitching. She and Day are both too powerful to keep out of the lineup. Also, It’s crazy that iakopo is batting 7th. That’s how deep this batting lineup is. Rhodes, Sullivan, Elish, Day, and Iakopo is some nice power right through the heart of the lineup.

also, went to the ut-Wichita state game tonight. Her teammates on the bench had a great chant for Rhodes. Something like “who’s that girl with the big ole booty and the big ole bat?” Maybe that’s common in softball, but I was rolling.

Just out of curiosity after seeing this demolition derby start to the season - for those who know softball, what are reasonable expectations for the team? And how impressive of a job has White done?

Yep. We appear to have more power this season, which we lacked last year relative to UCLA, ou, bama, etc.

And to the other question: white has done a great job. Case in point: we hit the ball much much better last year than we did under Connie. But still, Mike knew we needed to be even better, so he fired his hitting coach after only one season. He then brought in a pro baseball guy and the results speak for themselves. He has also significantly upgraded the roster in less than 2 years. He doesn’t fuck around, unlike the dipshit coaches we have on the men’s side.

Those are my expectations also. Hopefully O'Leary will give Miranda some help in the circle so she doesn't have to carry the team in the postseason again.

Baseball hitting coach doing well?

Super !    Singleton was interviewed during the Wichita St game.   Spoke of his approach to hitting instruction emphasizing individual approach and utilizing analytical software like Rapsodo and Blast.      A very, very sharp individual - props to MW for the hire,  hope he can keep him.

TwiceHorn at times refers to the analytical software in the baseball forum.   Augie and Connie apparently did not embrace its use or did not have latest tech.   Though the competition was less than stellar,   as bschoolprof indicates you can see the aggressiveness at the plate and the swing mechanics.   Attack the ball !

Thoughts (take with grain of salt)

-  Defense looked great.   3 errors in 6 games Parker(2) Slack(1).    Perhaps reason for Janae starting at SS today.    Slack did look better going to her left,  Parker has the talent, but it may be a confidence factor.   Tedder played 2B today,  played 2B in travel ball per Spencer interview.

-  Ellsworth only caught game 1,  did not even PH for the rest of the series.  Had 2 PB in game 1, not experienced with Elish.    Perhaps injury or doghouse ?    Ellsworth is a very quiet person,  perhaps MW wants more vocal person at catcher.   After only limited view of Sullivan,  I think Ellsworth has the better arm but since her previous injury maybe not the bat.

-  Really hope Iakopo continues to catch Elish.   Too much chemistry between the two to negate.   (Cat/Megan, Blaire/Amy)

-  Day is really good everywhere.    Seems to be in front for 3rd starter after more game experience.

-  Disappointed that Grace Green did not do well.  (5 walks)

-   Kailee Cuoco,  Volunteer Asst,  was not in the dugout ?    Still on roster.

- Great start to the season,  bright future.

Last year we had 41 HR in 63 games

We have 7 in 6 games and Elish has 4 already (6 last year). That’s on pace for 73 HR in 63 games.  If we can hit over 50 for the year, I’d be quite happy

Green looked good at the plate today, from what I saw.

I think she might be battling an injury.  I noticed during one group celebration after a dinger (not hers obviously) that she seemed to be favoring one leg when she jumped.  Could be nothing, but it's odd she hasn't gotten at least a few more innings behind the plate.

Good observation.

Texas coach Mike White said junior catcher Taylor Ellsworth, who was one of three Longhorns who didn’t play on Sunday, is day-to-day with a knee injury.

Texas was #6 in the ESPN/USA Softball Top 25.  With Alabama dropping 3, I think they drop behind us but FSU moves up into the top 5.

The top 6 should be Washington, OU, UCLA, Arizona, FSU, Texas.

The top 10:

  • #1 Alabama - 1-3 (losses to #8 FSU twice and RV North Carolina)
  • #2 Washington - 5-0
  • #3 Oklahoma - 5-0
  • #4 UCLA - 6-0
  • #5 Arizona - 5-0
  • #6 Texas - 5-0
  • #7 Minnesota - 3-2 (losses to RV Mizzou and #16 Kentucky)
  • #8 FSU - 5-0 (including 2 wins over #1 Alabama)
  • #9 Florida 4-1 (loss to #14 Michigan)
  • #10 ULL 3-1 (loss to North Texas)

Otherwise, the rest of our scheduled ranked/receiving votes opponents went:

  • #11 Tennessee - 2-1 (loss to #5 Arizona)
  • #13 Ok State - 2-2 (2 losses to #11 LSU)
  • #14 Michigan - 5-0
  • #19 Texas Tech - 5-0
  • #25 Ole Miss - 0-5 (losses to Louisville, NC State, Illinois, ND and Liberty)
  • RV Baylor - 2-2 (losses to Mizzou and Missouri State)
  • RV Houston - 4-1 (loss to UMass-Lowell)
  • RV Boise State - 4-1 (loss to Sacramento State

So some of our unranked non-conf opponents picked up big wins too:

  • Utah - took down #15 Northwestern
  • North Texas - fell to ULL 1-2
  • Liberty - took down #25 Ole Miss
  • UT Arlington - took 2/3 from Aggy (0-2, 7-2 and 5-4)

Little annoyed we don't have our stats up.  But the Big 12 is tracking them after the first weekend

Texas (compared to Big 12 teams):

  • #1 in BA (.486)
  • #2 in HR (7)
  • #1 in walks drawn (25)
  • #1 in slugging (.801)
  • #1 in OBP (.564)
  • #1 in SB (7-8)
  • #4 in pitching (1.81 ERA)
  • #2 in strikeouts (41)
  • Only Big 12 team who didn't surrender a HR
  • #1 in BAA (.144)
  • #3 in fielding (.975)

OU is #2 in offense, #3 in pitching

Elish is #2 in BA, Tuesday is #3, Day is #5, Jefferson #6, Washington #7, Rhodes #8
Elish is #1 in slugging (2.1821) and RBI (17) and #2 in OBP (.8002) and tied for 1st in HR (4)

Big 12 still looks like:

OU (until we beat them)
Texas
Tech
Baylor/OSU
ISU
Kansas
