I agree about Nadal- does a great job describing the game. I think Matt Hicks is OK but I can definitely tell a huge difference in my enjoyment of the game when Nadal calls it vs Hicks.

Hell I'm an Astros fan and I find myself tuning in to hear Nadal on a warm summer night as I'm driving around town.

Nadel is good, but Mark Holtz was "the" all time Ranger announcer.

Josh Lewin and Tom Grieve were a good tandem for the Rangers

Because Lewin carried Grieve.  Once Lewin left, Grieve started to sound like my 88-yo father calling a game.

Dick Risenhoover.

Yes. Risenhoover was great as well.

Many years ago as a kid when TV sports was only on the weekends,I really got a kick out of Peewee Reese and Dizzy Dean.

The camera was panning the stands and Ole Diz saw a young couple in the centerfield bleachers and actually uttered these now-famous words on the air: "Lookie there, Pee Wee; those young folks are smoochin' after every pitch. He's kissin' her on the strikes, and she's kissin' him on the balls." True story.

My favorite Dizzy Dean story came when he was put in as a pinch runner on first in the '34 World Series. He elected not to slide on a double-play ball and the throw from second caught him square in the forehead. Knocked him cold. They took him to the hospital and the next day headlines in the Detroit Free Press said, "X-RAYS OF DEAN'S HEAD SHOW NOTHING." Another true story.

Fun fact: Ron was a lock to be the Texas play by play guy on every LHN game...

Put me down for Kern Tips. And Diz & Peewee.

Nowadays I shut the volume off for the most part. if the skycam spidercam all-22 is available, that's great shit, right there... it'd be gooder if they'd put the little graphic with score, time, down & distance on it, but just not having the babbling morons is a huge improvement. Wouldn't mind having the network replays, though.

I like Klatt. Gus needs to not announce anything but the last play if the game. I literally can't stand how over the top every single play is. I turn the volume off so I don't have to hear him masturbate over every 2 yard run.

Yeah, I always liked PeeWee too, even after that jerking off in a porno theatre in Florida thing. And then there's Marv Albert and his biting the bitch in the butt thing. Hmmm, I'm sensing a pattern here. Wonder what that cocksucker Stephen A. Smith's thing is? Whatever it is, I bet it's loud, obnoxious, and over the top. Sportscasters, gee, I don't know . . .

I don’t know if I have a favorite, but I pretty much want to straight up murder these sonofabitches every time I hear them.

Andre Ware should also be locked into a shipping container and abandoned at the port of Houston.

Johnson and Klatt is the best pair out there. Klatt is probably the best CFB analyst/ color guy in the business right now and everyone likes Gus. Tony Rono is really good at the pro level.

Maybe sarcmeter batteries weak or dead, but it looks like you're missing Herman Reese, there.

Fucking Howard.  Check out this old pre-game from '76

Howard throws a barb at 2:25 to his colleagues, then you see good ol' Lou Holtz.

I really enjoyed Dandy Don with Cosell. Meredith is still my all time greatest Cowboy.

Too many Meredith moments to list. His banter and ribbing of Cosell are classic.

I gotta admit I miss Jack Dale calling our games, RIP.

You just felt like you were with family when his voice filled the airwaves.

Jack Dale was great, though for whatever reason I think of him as a basketball guy more than a football guy...great old school announcer voice...

Some great old time New Year's Day television was watching Texas win many Cotton Bowl games with Lindsey Nelson announcing.

Troy Aikman.
Not even close.

Sweet. But wrong, he is with Joe buck. That makes him suck.

Joe does suck. A lot. Still think Aikman is awesome.

Yeah, I can give you most of the '55 Dodgers starting lineup. And I never get my Pee Wee's mixed up. That WHOOSH that some people heard . . .  Just sayin' some people, you understand . . .

FTO, but it is in full swing since June is here.  I am talking about college football exclusively.

Keith Jackson is the GOAT in my book, but my by FAR favorite is Gus Johnson.  You can hear the passion for the game in his voice no matter what game he is calling, and he calls it right down the middle.  No favorites, just passion and screaming in to the microphone!

^^^Be sure to watch at :40 and at 1:09 for the awesome followed by the lulz.

Gus Johnson is my favorite. Most entertaining announcer!

"Watch out! Uh oh! Wow!" "He's got get away from the cops speed!" "You got barbecue and didn't invite me?! Hurt. My. Feelings!""

IMHO, There’s only  one answer for the Rangers if we goin back through history...

Remind me...

I listened to approximately 6 million ranger games on the radio as a kid but drawing a complete blank here
Posted

I also really liked Lewin. If they could've gotten a partner for him that actually knew any pop culture references they would be gold together. Grieve was a fucking caveman.

The greatest sports broadcasting team ever was Howard Cosell, Dandy Don Meredith, and Frank Gifford on MNF.  Monday Night Football was the 'must see tv' of its time and it wasn't because of the football game.  It didn't matter who was playing or if the game was good or not.  You'd tune in just to listen to what the hell they'd say next.

I guess you don't like Lindsey Nelson?  He was a treasure back in the day.  Much better than Dave Lapham and his ilk.

You beat me to Lindsey. Many of the old timers were special.

Same for me. Gus is really over the top and can make a spitting contest exciting. Joel does a great job of breaking down from and x’s and o’s Standpoint.

For radio, Craig way is obviously my favorite currently.

Klatt also doesn't buy into the SEC bullshit and lets it known. Maybe the only CFB guy currently on TV that does that.

Also realllllly like Eric Nadel who does the Rangers radio play-by-play.  One of the best baseball announcers on radio in my opinion.

Mussberger and Galindo.  Come at me, bro.

I liked Musberger-- I won't defend him to anyone who doesn't like him, but he was a big game announcer from the time I first started watching the sport.

If you'll recall, both Humble Howard and Faultless Frank were dumbfounded, but Ol' Dandy Don just calmly said, "Well, there's another fan saying his team is Number One."

C'mon, guys; this is a buncha' bullshit in what should be a one-answer thread: Keith Jackson for CFB, Vin Scully for MLB, and nobody give a fuck about the NFL, the NBA, the NHL, and for sure that boring-ass golf.
