I still say these games are a colossal waste of time with this "coach". Yea some younger guys are playing but we are not developing a direction for this team and it has been a year since we were eliminated. This is sad to watch.

I don't agree.

The people who make the decision on hiring the next head coach will be hiring someone who will take the USMNT in a direction that requires more skilled players than we've usually played in the past. And the young players who have been getting international experience fall into this category.

Also, these are the best players of their generation and predominantly play in Europe (so European clubs also think that they are the best Americans of their generation), so they are getting experience playing together and learning each other's preferences and tendencies.

These young kids are also getting to play impressive European & South American teams rather than fucking minnows from CONCACAF, so they will be less intimidated in the future when playing against top teams while also understanding that they should spank the fucking minnows. At the same time, they are learning that sometimes the minnows play very cynical soccer, so it won't be a surprise when the Gold Cup comes around and then after that when we have to qualify for the World Cup.

Even with a high school coach on the sidelines, these game would be very helpful for future development. But since they are actually being coached by a coach who has worked with many of these kids before through the U-17 team, they're getting a coach who knows them and in addition to all of the other positives listed above, they are being put in positions that they are familiar with and can excel.

So these games have been great for the younger generation. PERIOD.

A few of these games are good, I agree. But this team has now played Portugal, France, Brazil, Mexico, and Colombia with England and Italy coming up in November. It's time to start using these games to build the team in the direction we're wanting to go. Instead we're going to see much more of the same--some good individual skill but a team that is tactically inferior and not going to be getting any better. If we're going to get drubbed, I'd like it to be with a goal and direction in mind.

Yedlin and Bradley have no business on this team. Yedlin cost us a win. I like the Sargent kid, seems creative and fun to watch

Yedlin only played about 10 minutes, but didn't appear to get his head in the game when he came on.

Bradley played almost 20 minutes and although he definitely sucked at times and gave the ball away, he hustled like he was only playing 20 minutes rather than jogging to play 95 minutes. He still sucked, but you could tell that he understood that his job was on the line, which was refreshing. He did have a good clearance with his head as well, but he really kind of sucks and should never be in the squad again.

Delgado actually hustled his ass off for nearly the entire game. He had several horrible giveaways in the first half, but substantially fewer giveaways in the 2nd half. The goal wasn't on him. First of all, it was Yedlin's responsibility, and secondly, Delgado was gassed and should not have been expected to play his position and Yedlin's at the same time.

If Freddy Adu had had Amon's heart & hustle, he would have been an amazing player. They're similar in size, but Freddy's skill was so superior to Amon's. Freddy just came up at the wrong time, had everything handed to him right as he entered his (official) "teenage years", and never wanted to put in the effort because he was so technically superior and already had million dollar sponsorship deals before he could even take driver's ed.

I don't like Guzan, but he played well. The goal wasn't his fault and he made a great save on a curling floater of a free kick in the dying minutes. I still worry that every time he has some time on the ball and then an opposing player runs at him that he's going to whiff the kick and it's going to roll into the goal.

I was thinking about the post that these games were meaningless without a permanent head coach when I was watching Weah pressing high up the field, trying to win the ball back. I was thinking that any tricks that he and Sargent saw the tricky Peruvians (or Colombians) pull while trying to create space/bring the ball out of the back would go into their memory bank and they will most probably work on that move in the weeks/months to come and/or add those moves to their shortlist of things to look out for when playing with their club teams. Exposing the younger players to skilled, small, Latin American players from CONMEBOL teams will payoff when we are playing slightly less-skilled, small, Latin American players in CONCACAF qualifying & Gold Cup.

ESPN's Player Ratings:

Josh Sargent was their standout.

Ben Sweat was their weakest link...

...though Yedlin should have been, but received an N/R, as did Michael Bradley, but they saw the same Michael Bradley that I did.

My 11-year old niece who lives in Paris wants a Tim Weah USA national team jersey. The only places I kind find are sketchy websites out of China. Any suggestions?  The national team website store has been under construction for a while.

You might have to customize the jersey yourself.

This is so depressing to read back through.  I havnt followed the MNT much. So let me get this straight.  We still dont have head coach designated? WHat is the hold up?

They're waiting for the MLS season to finish.

(Or at least for the Columbus Crew's season to finish.)
