This is all such bullshit. They need to stop televising and recording these hearings. If anybody really really wants to know what was said, they can read a transcript.

I agree. None of this shit is legitimate. It's one side trying to out-asshole each other, and the other side having to go overboard in their support. It's entirely meaningless. If the purpose was to judge poise, demeanor, temperment, etc., Kavanaugh would have failed by a huge margin. This circus is completely irrelevant.

I don't think it's irrelevant.  As someone who deals with judges all the time, I think the temperament is relevant and important.  And I'll tell you, from what I've seen and heard of both, holy shit, the difference between her and Kavanaugh is breathtaking.

She is a highly qualified candidate with a good judicial temperament.  In a sane world, she should fly through confirmation.  In this timeline, who the fuck knows.

I miss that moment in time where being a racist in America was considered bad and they at least hid it from public view. I'm not sure we can ever get back.

Excellent back to back posts.

She'll be confirmed because she's a fabulous candidate.  These hearings are nothing but open political warfare with the nominee as the pawn. It's disgusting

Yeah, they need to take the opportunity for grandstanding and pandering out of it.  It's pretty ridiculous.

Or the time he was asked about Putin’s comments on Western liberalism and he responded by talking about California Democrats.

So you agree this is pointless since temperament is completely irrelevant in how these things play out now?

Well, do you want "Ledge Brisket" or "still can't shake the habit of believing in the process and Rule of Law Brisket?"  Because Ledge Brisket agrees with you.  But Rule of Law Brisket would like the proper things to be vetted in these hearings.

I can’t fault ledge Brisket, but rule of law Brisket is the best Brisket.

Demagogues were the fear of Athens. They tried to stand on guard against them by reminding themselves of the threat.

We don't.

We now find ourselves having a serious discussion about not televising an important Senate function to dampen the rabble-rousing of the fascist party. It's serious enough that I'm leaning towards turning off the cameras so that the demagogues can't collect snippets for their campaign ads.

The Athenians of antiquity were very pragmatic. I admire that about them and the Romans.

We're not.

Honestly, guys, I can't see how y'all can put yourselves through the torture of watching this shit. Cameras in the room or not, turn off your teevees or close that browser. This can't be good for your health.

I can barely stand to watch a 30-second clip on Twitter before feeling the urge to break shit around me. Then again, do take out the cameras so I won't even have to suffer through that ordeal.

She’s an eminently qualified candidate, which has somewhat subdued the Republican theatrics in my opinion.

Read the texags thread.  It took about 2 minutes before someone pointed out that she had absolutely no qualifications for the job.  It's comical, except it's sad.

I seem to remember this court ruling close to two months ago that we were already too close to the next elections to require Alabama to redraw its racist maps. Now it's saying there's enough time to require Ohio to make its maps more racist.

My rage once only appeared occasionally until a few years ago. It's unhealthy, I'm sure. I haven't tuned into this because I know what is to happen and I don't want to be yelling at the TV. I watched the end of the Reid Out and the first half of the guy afterwards on MSNBC, and that was enough.

Thirty years ago, these GЯP grandstanders would likely have been rejected by their colleagues even if they'd managed to get enough votes from the GOP to be elected. Now? Garden variety subversion.

for that he'll simply lean on his racism

We watched Kavanaugh cry and whine and throw a temper tantrum. If Jackson so much as raises her voice they’ll criticize her for being “emotional” (i.e. a woman) and “angry” (i.e. black).

One side is fighting for the average citizens and the other is fighting for the corporate citizens.

I think Ladybugs might be the second most contemptible American politician of the last 50 years.  Rising above Nixon, Gingrich, McConnell, Cruz, Greene, Gym, Boobert and the rest is impressive.  Well done.

He has been there so long his duplicity is wearing thin.  People are beginning to catch him speaking out of both sides of his mouth.

It makes more sense when you remember that the emergency circumstance is the republicans might not take the house this November

Of course, she graduated in 1947, so  . . . .

I have no doubt that your mother would also be a better senator than this lady.

Thank you.  It was sort of a "sign o the times."  That is more or less what women majored in back then.  Her degree had a substantial amount of chemistry in it and she was very well-versed in nutrition.

Yes, I have heard evidence that Lindsay Graham surfs child porn on the internet.

I in fact have heard no evidence that disputes that Lindsay Graham surfs child porn on the internet.

There are indeed allegations that Lindsay Graham surfs child porn on the internet.

This showed up as a FB post from a close friend of my former FIL's today. (He's a HP resident and likely friends with @Johnny Sack.)

Quote

Today, the "BIDEN AWARD" (presented for brilliance, clarity and logic in public policy) goes to Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, President Biden's nominee for the nation's first "Affirmative Action" Supreme Court Justice, who could not define the word "WOMAN" on the second day of her confirmation hearings. What?? Gender is a Fact! The Oxford Dictionary defines "woman" as an "adult human female." However, this, the Judge can not fathom! She, obviously, resides in Alice's Wonderland, where "when [she uses] a word...it means what [she chooses] It to mean." If nothing more, this proves beyond any doubt she drank the Kool-aid and is totally "woke." That's reason enough to keep her off the Court!

I resisted the urge to clapback with I thought she was handling herself pretty well considering all the child porn and children's book questions coming from the GQP side.
