On a related note, if you're fan of 60 Minutes and Mike Wallace and basically the history of broadcast journalism in the U.S., you should read Don Hewitt's book "Tell Me a Story."

For those who don't know, Hewitt essentially invented modern broadcast journalism.  He created CBS News, produced Edward R. Murrow's show, directed the famous Kennedy-Nixon debate and created/produced 60 Minutes, among other things.

One of the interesting sections of the book was his version of how the whole Jeff Weigand/Brown & Williamson tobacco story went down.  He was NOT a fan of how he was portrayed in Michael Mann's "The Insider" and definitely wasn't a fan of Lowell Bergman.  As with most things, I'm sure the truth of the matter lies somewhere in the middle.  Interesting read, nonetheless.

Didn’t he screw over Rusty crow in the tobacco expose?

Not sure if serious, but no he didn't.

The decision on whether or not to air the episode after the initial interview with Weigand was up to Don Hewitt, the executive producer and creator of 60 Minutes (he was also a legend at CBS News, as he'd essentially been there since it started).

Mike Wallace wasn't going to go against Hewitt.
