Awe, I wouldnt know since I said I wouldn't eat commie ice cream.

You don't have to eat it -- just browse the ice cream freezer at your local grocery store. Everybody carries B&J. They use the plastic wrap around the outside of the lid.

Kind of refreshing to see not everyone on a thread here demanding the death penalty for some crime.

IIRC, she's (the Blue Bell licker) a juvenile and will be "tried" as one.  That seems appropriate to me.  There will be consequences, but nothing life-altering.  The publicity stands a chance of following her around for a while if she gets doxxed.

Well not seriously of course, but she does need a good spanking....

It's a deterrent type of sentencing guideline that allows a broad range based on the offense. It has its origins from when the sociopath went around tampering with Tylenol a couple of decades back. If the tampering with Blue Bell and other foods dies off by the time her sentencing comes up, then she will probably get the bare minimum. If the copycats show up in force and starts a trend that causes any significant resources to be directed at combating food tampering by the time the judge hits that final gavel, she is in a world of hurt. Sure, it's just ice cream, but do we really need to start dissecting food tampering legislation to target specific foods? There is a serious health risk depending on the food item. Society has a certain proclivity towards escalation for the street cred and if it gets out of hand, the original perpetrator and everyone who came after her in the latest round of tampering are getting the book thrown at them.

Should there be people in jail for Blue Bell's listeria outbreak? Absolutely. I haven't eaten Blue Bell since that happened and refuse to buy it for my home. Does race play a factor for this particular girl? There's a strong possibility. Neither of those realities mean that the food tampering laws don't serve a very legitimate purpose and the sentencing guidelines for it are broad specifically to address it on a case by case basis, regardless of the food involved.

That’s way too rational a response.

What should happen to this woman is kind of like what happens to a kid when their old man catches them smoking and then sits em down and makes em smoke a pack.  She should be forced to eat around 5 gallons of ice cream in one sitting.

I got my ass whooped when I did stupid shit.  Kept me from doing more stupid shit.

As repulsive as this act was, isnt the ice cream too cold to transmit any type of contagion?

the cold of the ice cream only slows the growth of the bacteria and as it thaws, it speeds up the growth and spread.  Regardless, the only saliva I want from another person is a hot chick I'm french kissing, otherwise sterile or not, i wouldn't want that from anyone else.

What about if she had just eaten your “tin roof”?

"Dope fiends."

Were you in attendance at a drug conference in Vegas around 1971?

Were you on the late list and they moved your reservation to the Moonlight Motel on Paradise Boulevard?

This is something the Singapore Cane is reserved for.  I always thought it might have a use here and this is a case where I think the little darling might be a candidate for such punishment.

Just as an aside, I was in Whole Foods yesterday and walked down the frozen aisle. Checked out the ice cream and many of those have the "locks" that break on the plastic lid. Seems that's more eco-friendly than the plastic across the top that has environmentalists in a tizzy because of extra waste going in the ocean.

Yeah it just doesn't seem that it would be that difficult to design a plastic free solution.

So, would this prevent someone from breaking the "lock" and licking the ice cream?

I just don't see how better "sealing" would eliminate this act. (licking the ice cream)

Well if you break the lock someone should be able to see that.  Once there's a detection system, licking the ice cream kinda loses the potential that somebody might buy it and eat your drool.  Where's the fun in that ?

2.0 gets it. It might not stop the behavior but it will let people know if a carton has been tampered with, which is the main goal here. (I will add most of the ice cream I was looking at was point servings, not quarts or gallons.)

If alerting you to tampering is the sole reason for all this discussion, Blue Bell’s existing practice is sufficient. You can’t get the top off the carton without obvious visible evidence, and with the ice cream frozen to the lid, even if you somehow missed that, it’s clear that it’s not right.

Perhaps we could get the inventor of the innovative disposable festival tamper-proof drinking cup on that project, if she's hasn't made too much money already?

You know, I could have lived the rest of my natural life and never once thought to myself, "I wonder what Michael Fay is doing now."  Except you had to remind me that he existed.

So, if any of you are curious, apparently he's a casino manager now: https://mustsharenews.com/michael-fay-today/

And the eyebrows are not quite as robust as they once were:

Well, that's what Blue Bell says. Not sure I completely trust them these days. My guess is there's some way you can reasonably replicate this if you wanted to. It's damn near impossible with the plastic "locks" many companies are using on pint ice cream.

I’m not just taking their word for it, it’s based on personal experience. Has anyone ever gotten a lid off one of their cartons cleanly? It can be done, but only if you’re really careful about it, something that doesn’t go hand in hand with a mad lick and dash. And you could tell where that girl licked even in the video.

I get it if you want it “sealed” but their current packaging seems to show evidence of tampering well enough to me if that’s the only concern.
