Movie Details that you will surprise you....

I'm convinced that Matt Damon's character in The Departed was gay. I think they tried to play on the theme of being someone you're not. Leo was a cop trying to be a bad guy and Matt Damon was a bad guy trying to be a cop. But I think he was also a gay guy trying to be a straight guy. He didn't really want to go on a second date with the psych lady. When Alec Baldwin talks about how being married is important because "it lets people know you're not a homo and that your dick must work" he laughingly responds "ohhh yeah it's workin.....overtime" but then the next scene his girl is talking about how he can't get a boner. Then he has a weird reaction to the girl getting pregnant even though we all know it's Leo's baby.

Interesting.

His apartment was quite neat. Never mentions a lady to the realtor, and gets fussy when asking for the papers to sign.

I totally forgot about that! He balked at the reference to a woman and said "I have a cosigner".

in the porno theater when he whips out his dong and says “see anything you like?”

Which, because I am a true surlster, caused me to break out in gales of laughter in the theater.  But only because it was BBC.

I’m still trying to figure out the thread title.  I’m sure I’m in for a surprise when I do figure it out.

I may or may not have been drinking when I wrote it's.

See, now I'm mentally rewatching the movie and wondering how I missed all this, and debating firing it up.

It changes things.

And I'm not sure how someone could go through life with Vera as a beard, but I digress:

Quentin Tarantino's "True Romance" script offers you this clue in case you think Italian mobsters can put one fucking IQ point together between the whole crew---the whole group is inside a trailer measuring 16x6 for an hour before Dennis Hopper gets there.  Four of them.  Now the dialogue between Walken and Hopper is epic.  But you're also supposed to note it takes one death, and 4 fucking idiots in all that trouble and exposure to realize the note on the fridge had the intel the whole fucking time.  Growing up in Chicago with Italian organized crime, I like that Quentin realized and portrayed beautifully that these guys are far beyond moronic, they actually will commit crimes just to demonstrate how fucking stupid they are.  That scene is gorgeous between the two drama heavyweights (Chris and Dennis)...but you can feel Tarantino's little touch with the fridge note.  What a great little film...

Continuing with Tarantino:

Natural Born Killers was based off of a Tarantino script, with the strong critique of the media element added by Oliver Stone. Tarantino originally had only good things to say but more recently has been very negative towards it.  Still, you can clearly see the Tarantino elements in the movie right down to some of the character names.

Chris Farley was originally targeted for “The Cable Guy”.  In fact it was written with him in mind.  But Carrey agreed and was the first $20 mil actor

Shrek was also written for him.  There are test scenes with Farley doing the voice.

Not just test scenes, 70-80% of the movie with his voice was already produced.

If they just could have worked his death gurgle into the film, they could have avoided Mike Myers.

Glad I'm not the only one who never found Mike Myers that funny.  He did some good stuff on SNL, obviously...he was there for long enough to create a solid greatest hits tape.  But Wayne's World movies weren't funny.  Or at least they're not funny once you're not a stoned teenager anymore.  A dozen people could have done the Shrek movies better than he did.  First Austin Powers was funny, rest of it was garbage.  I know he's a wildly rich comedic actor, but so is Carrot Top.  Doesn't mean they're funny.

Back to move details and replacing actors who were supposed to carry the project.  Apparently a huge chunk of the principal photography on "The Thin Red Line" had the film largely centering around Adrian Brody, instead of the ensemble cast feature we know it to be today.  Brody even tours with the film as it premieres at myriad festivals around the world.  At the first one though, he watches the newly cut version fresh from Malick's editing room.  He learns in real time that he's in about 8 total minutes of the movie, about the same amount as George Clooney and John Travolta.  Several "new" faces carry the picture alongside expanded roles for known character actors like Nolte, Cusack, and Penn.  Brody still blames the turn his career took on that editing choice.

I respect Mackovic in that he won as many conference championships in 6 seasons than Mack Brown won in 16 seasons.

What happened to John Jr?  He was a poster for many years.  He drop off the face of the earth?
