It's funny to me how much action this thread gets after a weekend loss to Tech.

Tech isn't and was never going to be the nail in the coffin. Tech is good. They scheme well, they are coached well, they like winning. This is a team coming off an EE appearance. Texas was expected to lose.

Losing on the road to one of the worst Big 12 basketball teams I have ever seen, and quite possibly the worst Pokes team in their fucking history should have done it for anyone paying attention.

Inexcusable. Unexplainable. Indefensible. Unacceptable.

The depths of the loss in Stillwater know no bounds. I watched the last 3 minutes jfk and couldn't beleive what I was seeing. Okie Lite was so piss poor bad it felt like a fever dream watching Texas' inability to win.

I watched the last five minutes or so of this game on LHN before today's game as I had not seen in the first time.  After watching that bullshit, I really didn't even want to watch today's bullshit.

For record, I'd rather have Jaxon Hayes than James Banks.

I initially had very high hopes for James Banks.  I watched him play a lot of games over two years.  I can confidently conclude that he sucks at basketball.  He looks like he'd be a great basketball player until you actually put him on a court with a basketball and ask him to play basketball.

Move Shaka to some bullshit role in athletic department where he can help less privileged kids find a way to go to college..... or negotiate a reduced buyout if Shaka's wants to save face by coaching somewhere else....

CDC has to move on from this bullshit basketball coach. 🤘

That’s why you have a coach.  To either not sign the James Banks of the world, or to turn them into rebounding and defensive specialists who can make 7/10 layups and 6/10 free throws.  Our guy can do neither, apparently.

he ain't making the tournament with this team.

I could see this team losing the next 6 to get a 8 game losing streak and 10-12 before the home game against Baylor. It's doubtful we are going to be the favorite in any of the next 6 games. Maybe the home game against OU.

Holy shit.  How the fuck is his buyout so god damn high.

Im in shock. He was a midmajor coach. Why would we sign that contract

For a minute the University of Texas lost it's damn mind, got hijacked by some total ass clowns, and they did damage to the university that lingers even today.

I flagged this on the old board when it was announced. Sexton is Shaka's agent and strong-armed Patterson during Shaka's 2nd year.

this is what will force CDC's hand. A saturday matinee home game vs an in-state, in-conference, top 10 ranked, old SWC rival, and not only do we not come close to getting a sellout, but their fans are actually louder than ours. it is over. the shaka smart era is over. we cannot abide by this.

Chris Ogden's UTA team got a buzzer beating win today on the road behind a beautifully drawn up and executed play which saw his team end up with a wide open corner three which his player nailed. It made me very sad to see that even Chris Ogden has the competence to draw up a really nice end-of-game play, and that his players had the competence to execute it. Shaka has got to go.

To be fair, Chris Ogden's entire playing career was based on him coming in and being the 3 point shooter that nobody would guard because they didn't know who he was. This moment is what he was meant to coach.

Probably learned that from Barnes. Barnes was excellent at TEACHING in-bounds plays for shots.

Wow had no idea about this

Barnes is 71-45 at Tennessee, 40-10 over the last two seasons.

Beard took over a program that had averaged 13 wins per year for the five year period before his hiring. Rick took over a program with all sorts of cheating and coaching issues and not even a single 4* player on the roster or in the pipeline, a program that was projected to be a bottom feeder in the SEC. Both good coaches have very quickly turned their programs into national powers with clear team identities and mentally strong players.

Meanwhole Shaka took over a program that averaged 21.6 wins per year during the previous five years, took over a team that was ready to compete for the league title and make a second weekend tourney run, added to it three consecutive top 8 national recruiting classes, and he has his program tanking and his players looking completely inept. I think it's finally starting to settle in for everybody how monumentally bad this hire was, and how seriously outclassed Shaka Smart is.

there was rumor that UCLA was looking at Smart and Smart wasn't sure he was ready for that type of gig but when Texas came calling he thought it was right next step.  red flag.

The guy is a below average basketball coach who had one miracle run.  its time.

I did not get to watch the second half of our game, so I went back just now to check out the final couple of minutes to see what happened. The very first play we ran was so frustrating to watch that I had to bring it back and do a quick amateur film breakdown of it. If an armchair coach like me can see this many glaring problems on one random play from year 4 of the Shaka era, we are in trouble:

I repped the first time I saw it; posting the same vid three times in three separate threads might be a bit much.

i'm not the first person to do this, in fact machinator does it all of the time and it's never bothered me. i want as many people to see this as possible, and 2/3 threads i posted it in are threads that don't generally get new users clicking on them.

My top three picks to replace smart.

Eric Musselman, Becky Hammon, Chris Holtmann.

I would have included Beard, but now at this point it is a pipe dream. It would be a step down for him.

I am quickly losing faith in CDC. Who is the AD at Tech, they seem to have things headed in the right direction?

If we keep smart another year, we set this program up on a path that will take 10 years to fix. I said the same thing about the football program when Mack stopped trying in 2010.

i like a lot of what you said, but my man- CDC has been all around crushing it. I expect him to continue to do so with our hoops program.

also, i have zero doubt about becky hammon's basketball iq or her ability to coach, but she's not a realistic CBB head coach candidate.
