Was there an ETA on the safety transfer? I don't remember. More like "before/after the semester" rather than "before or on Dec 15th" type thing, not looking for anything too specific

It sounds like he’s staying put, if his Insta/Twitter/whateverthefuck is to be believed.

Damn, so it was Anderson? Too bad. Are we still grabbing the non-exciting edge that has lots of potential?

FWIW - Marion, recently re-engaged with the Texas program, has started following Haulcy.  I'm really hoping they take the initiative on this kid - especially if that other Safety has made it known he intends to stay where he is at.

Was out of cell range for four days. The non portal talk was a massive beat down. But dammit, badmouthing a McCombs degree was too much. My McCombs MBA lifted me out of near poverty as a Night Hawk bus boy (true story bro) to far beyond my meager dreams of prosperity. Eff that poster who called out a McCombs degree.

And cheers to Herbie Hancock by staying consistent and calling people pussie again. This thread needed that. Now back to portal updates.

Wouldn’t literally anything be better than  busboy at night hawk? Well maybe except jizz mop guy

I know there are still lessons to be learned when it comes to the portal but we should have been all over this kid regardless. Gideon, Joseph, and PK should have jumped on this kid. Kids are going to say one thing and do another when it comes to the portal and if Anderson was the safety in question I would have believed it once his name was in the portal.

He’s pretty big for a safety (220). I can see how K-State might be looking at him in that middle safety spot in the 3-3-5 but not sure he has the cleanest projection in our defense at safety. But yes, productive player who we could probably find a role for if we wanted to.

Probably a good example of the decisions we are having to make right now. There haven’t been a ton of high level safeties enter so do you wait and see what else becomes available or push for one now and risk missing out on someone you would have liked better down the road.

Roach with a few portal notes

    Spoiler

As we reported in the last week, there hasn’t been a ton of movement for Texas in the portal. A big reason for that is a focus on getting this class signed and seeing what true needs are moving forward. That doesn’t mean the staff hasn’t been communicating with portal prospects and doing their due diligence to build a relationship and put themselves in a position to recruit those prospects down the road.

Texas extended an offer to Wake Forest cornerback Gavin Holmes. We’ve been able to talk to a few folks there and the interest is real. Holmes has been extremely quiet so we don’t yet have an idea where he sees Texas, but I do believe that the two sides are in a wait-and-see mode until after the early signing period.

There hasn’t been much movement on the receiver front as the Longhorns are being picky with their selections, but one name we heard is Louisiana Tech wide receiver Tre Harris. Harris had a strong season in Ruston collecting 65 catches for 935 yards and 10 touchdowns. Harris was added to the Biletnikoff award watch list during the season in recognition of the strong performances he was having.

Linebacker is another position we are watching, but it will largely depend on how things work out in the high school recruiting class. The staff has been in touch with Oklahoma State transfer Mason Cobb, but his recruitment is moving at a faster speed than the Longhorns would like to right now. Cobb already has several visits set up and could take more into January. If Texas misses out on some of the primary targets, I’d expect to see them make a move in the portal for immediate help.

What is your basis for this? That he was some sort of freshman AA for a horrible team?

Devin Richardson was a freshman AA too (NM St) and that didn't make him capable of playing at Texas.

Did you subject yourself to watching New Mexico football all year?

Isn't it more plausible the staff determined him to be less capable than players we already have on campus?

FWIW - Ish Harris was recruited by Texas and offered by Choate.  The Longhorns were in his Top 5 but he never took an OV to Texas.

This was what TFB said last year around the time he was offered by Texas:

    Quote

I made the trip up to Pilot Point yesterday to see rising 2022 athlete Ish Harris who traded in the hardwood last weekend for the baseball diamond.

In the last two weeks, Harris has picked up offers from Texas (Feb. 12) and Oklahoma (Feb. 17), yet his recruitment was already beginning to pop prior to the Red River rivals jumping into the mix.

“(Recruiting) has been pretty good to me,” said Harris, who was district 4-3A Offensive MVP this past season. “I’m just embracing it. It doesn’t last forever, so I am just not taking the things I have for granted.”

Harris told me there are four teams hot on his tail right now, Texas A&M, Texas, Oklahoma and Baylor. For the time being, there has not been any communication, but Alabama has started following Harris on Twitter and he expects them to get in the mix soon as well.

He added that Texas A&M, Baylor and Texas talk to him every day on the phone. The Texas staff even hosted him for a virtual visit last night as well. Harris said the coach that he has heard the most from so far during his recruitment is A&M’s Terry Price.

While he is listed as an ATH, Harris told me the majority of his offers are coming on the defensive side of the ball. Though, “I feel like wherever you put me, any environment, I feel like I can be a program changer,” Harris said. “I don’t prefer one side or the other, but side I know I will be the best at is probably outside linebacker because of my size and my build.”

The four aforementioned schools of Texas, A&M, OU and Baylor all offered on the defensive side of the ball. Though, it is worth noting that Texas A&M has pitched using Harris on both sides of the ball for a few series a game. “It is really appealing to me because I love both sides of the ball, but I still want to have a touch on the offensive side just a little bit.”

Getting into the Texas specific side of things, Harris said he is in communication with head coach Steve Sarkisian often, as well as LB coach Jeff Choate.

Harris has been down to Austin before and said he really enjoyed his trip down there, so he is familiar with the city.

    My Take

Harris told me he hopes to have a top schools released prior to his senior season and commit sometime during the season, so I expect this recruitment to carry out quite a bit. The four-sport athlete hopes to study agricultural engineering at the next level which plays into the favor of Texas A&M.

For the time being, Texas A&M and Texas are both up at the top, though I would probably give the Aggies a slight edge. I am willing to bet Oklahoma makes up ground, but Harris pointed out a loaded depth chart at the LB position as something that is holding back the Sooners right now. But again, things will change once he is able to visit campuses in person.

    Why not? What’s the issue?

With limited scholarships, I thought our staff would be targeting players in the portal that are proven contributors at the college level... Ish Harris has recorded 0 stats of any kind... I'd much rather bring in a higher floor, experienced LB from a G5 school instead...

I would think if they were comfortable taking a "project" in the portal that they're comfortable with Ford coming back  for another year.

He redshirted and didn’t play a down, so no stats.

    Quote

LB Ish Harris: From North Texas, the four-star linebacker did not see the field this year. Harris has since announced his intentions to enter the transfer portal.

Anyone like tiny safeties?  This kid has been ultra productive in the Sun Belt.  Georgia State's all time leader in interceptions.  Two years of eligibility left.

I hope not. For some reason, I wound up watching like 7-8 WVU games this year. He wouldn't be a difference maker on the Texas roster, IMO.

Eric (IT) confirms that Prather is one of the WR's they've been waiting on to enter the portal.  Says that Texas has interest, question is how much interest in Texas Prather has.  Believes Texas can make him interested if he's who they want.
